What are the responsibilities and job description for the Firewatch position at HMT Tank?
We are looking for a capable Firewatch who will be responsible for performing the various tasks required in the field construction of above ground storage tanks for the PETROCHEMICAL/REFINERY INDUSTRY including but not limited to, attending to confined space areas, keeping the work area free and clear of fire hazards, housekeeping and general cleanup of work area, color code verification of tools, organize tool and gang boxes, and various other general labor tasks as assigned.
You should be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions, have a steady hand and great attention to detail.
*This is for a project located in Deer Park, TX with an estimated time frame of 4 months and a 7-10 schedule.*
Firewatch responsibilities are:
- Must be able to, operate a fire hose and extinguisher and ensure they are inspected and safe to operate prior to use, know location of oxygen/acetylene bottles and how to operate them, must shut off all machines and gas cylinders, and make sure all individuals in the area evacuate.
- Following the completion of hot work, the fire watch must survey the work area for any signs of small smoldering fire.
- Must be able to travel.
- This position requires an individual who is physically fit and able to lift more than 50 lbs. (see physical requirements section for additional details), able to work in in-climate weather i.e. intense heat, humidity, and freezing temperatures, dirty conditions.
- Dependable transportation is required as well as the ability to work a flexible schedule if required (scheduled or unscheduled overtime, weekends, nights, and holidays)
Firewatch requirements are:
- Must read, write, and speak English.
- A minimum of a High School diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of 2 years fire watch and/or confined space attendant experience is preferred.
- Must be able to work off scaffolding and out of elevated equipment, which may or may not require being secured with a full body harness/lanyard depending on elevation heights.
- Employment is contingent upon the ability to pass required Safety Council training examinations and all pre-employment screenings i.e. physical, drug screen, and background. Position requires the ability to lift, push, and pull 50. lbs., bending, kneeling, walking, and sitting.
