As a Business Intelligence Developer and a member of our team you will have great opportunities to grow technically and professionally in multiple data disciplines. In this position, you will be able to support and improve our full stack of BI technologies.
Our Business Intelligence Developer team members utilize different tools, processes, and services as well as work with mentors and peers to understand and improve analytics, reporting, and visualization.
Key duties include:
- Translate business needs to technical specifications
- Design, build and deploy BI solutions (e.g. reporting tools, visualizations)
- Maintain and support data analytics platforms
- Create tools to store data (e.g. OLAP cubes)
- Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting
- Evaluate and improve existing BI systems
- Collaborate with teams to integrate systems and data sources
- Develop and execute database queries and conduct analyses
- Develop and update technical documentation
- Analyzes and assists with upgrades and configuration of reporting tools.
- Actively promotes a client-oriented approach.
As a member of the HNTB Digital Solutions team, you will be a part of our efforts to pursue the best solutions for the transportation industry and have great opportunities to grow technically and professionally through annual training.
What You’ll Do:
- Partners with business and technology partners to elicit, analyze, translate, and document business requirements (both functional and non-functional).
- Evaluates new IT developments and evolving business requirements and recommends appropriate systems alternatives and/or enhancements to current systems.
- Serves as a liaison between development teams and the internal/external customer or end user.
- Ensures traceability of business requirements in order to ensure quality solutions meet the business needs.
- Coordinates with developers, quality assurance teams, and users to test processes and ensure functionality and user acceptance.
- Supports project managers to coordinate resources and ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget, with quality, to the customer's satisfaction.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 5 years relevant experience, or
- In lieu of education, 9 years relevant experience
What We Prefer:
Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics, or a related field.
We are looking for you to have knowledge and experience in:
Technical:
- Developing reports, visually appealing dashboards, and innovative maps and data visualizations
- Relational database architectures at enterprise scale. Environments such as SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, or Redshift.
- Enterprise business intelligence and data analytics technologies, such as OAS, MS Power BI, and Tableau.
- BI development best practices such as source code, prototyping, and testing.
- Basic troubleshooting best practices with specific focus on enterprise BI systems.
- Analytical tools available in cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.
- Working with Linux and Windows OS and a basic understanding of networking.
- Testing and validating against expected results.
Collaboration:
- Communicating and troubleshooting with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Developing documentation, best practices, and gathering metadata.
- Interacting with data scientists to develop next-level insights and analysis of data sources.

The approximate pay range for California is $97,575.45 - $173,429.55. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
