What We're Looking For Responsible for oversight and completion of the utility coordination and permit process of highway infrastructure projects. This position works closely with the Project Manager, Design Team, and Construction Engineering Inspection Team to deliver highway infrastructure projects by mitigating project schedule and financial risks related to utilities and permits. This position requires and effective communicator with an understanding of the design, construction, and the utility coordination process for highway infrastructure projects. Responsible for the oversight and completion of utility coordination tasks to achieve necessary project utility clearances and complete appropriate documentation. Oversee project plan reviews, utility conflict resolution meeting facilitation, meeting material preparation, correspondence tracking, and communicating progress effectively are major elements of work. Will need to deliver quality work, on time, on budget and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. Primary Focus Will Include: Build and maintain relationships with the Project Team, Stakeholders, Clients, and Utility Companies to drive success of projects. Effectively communicate with Project Managers, Risk Managers, and Schedulers regularly to report utility coordination status and report risks to project scope, schedule, and budget. Effectively communicate with the Project Teams, Stakeholders, Clients, and Utility Companies. Facilitate and monitor the utility conflict resolution planning and track resolution progress. Facilitate utility conflict relocation meetings as requested by Designers, Clients, Stakeholders, and Utility Companies both in office and on site. Track and file utility coordination correspondence and meeting documentation. Track action items, requests for information, and complete associated follow up. Review the accuracy of project engineer’s cost estimates for utility reimbursements. Coordinate constructability reviews of design plans with appropriate staff. Oversee utility construction permit packaging and submission to Municipal and State Agencies. Oversee design assistance during construction procedures for construction conflict resolution. Perform other activities as assigned. Preferred Qualifications and Skills: Master’s degree in Engineering Engineer in Training (EIT) certification Professional Engineer (PE) certification Experience with development of plans, specifications, and cost estimates specifically for final design of road construction projects for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) or other state DOTs and Local Agencies. Experience in the use of MicroStation, ProjectWise, and Bluebeam. Experience in utility coordination, highway construction inspection and engineering. *IND What You'll Need Essential Responsibilities: Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided. Assist in the development of project specifications. Responsible for development of discipline specific engineering project elements/deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans. Aids in the coordination and productivity of project team members. Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineering project team members. Works closely with other disciplines and on multi-discipline projects. Performs quality control reviews of discipline - specific engineering project elements/deliverables. Assists with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within discipline. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 year of relevant experience PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience Competencies: Enhances action orientation by taking on tough challenges in experienced areas with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm. Comfortable learning new software and hardware. Optimizes work processes by using knowledge of the most effective and efficient ways to get things done with a focus on continuous improvement. Understands and is able to coordinate interdisciplinary efforts. Independently progresses the majority of designs and tasks required of the discipline. Exhibits experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and MicroStation and/or AutoCad. Exhibits a thorough understanding of the application related to engineering, geometric and algebraic principles. Manages time, proactively forecasting, and communicating project development needs.
