Job P urpose
The C-store Sales Associate position will provide daily support to the C-store in all areas of customer service to ensure a clean, bright, and inviting facility .
These positions will perform functions including but not limited to cashier ing and proper cash handling, customer service and sales activities , stocking duties , and maintaining store cleanliness in side and outside of the store .
Duties and R esponsibilities
Customer Assistance and Eng agement :
- Greet s and assist s customers in finding products, answering questions, and providing information about merchandise.
- Handle s customer complaints, returns, and exchanges, striving to resolve issues in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Operate s cash registers, process transactions, handle payments, and issue receipts.
- Ability to operate cash registers and handle cash and other payments accurately using established SOPs and work methods.
- Ability to use scanners to handle transactions, inventory, etc., quickly, and accurately following established SOPs and work methods.
- Ability to learn the operation of and demonstrate the use of self-service kiosks, holiday apps, gas pumps, carwash, and other services as needed.
- Build s positive relationships with customers, helping , and ensuring a pleasant shopping experience.
- Ability to manage customer complaints and difficult situations as they pertain to store, gas, or car wash sales.
- Answering phones as needed.
Sales and Upselling :
- Promote s and sell s products or services to customers, including upselling and cross-selling items.
- Meet or exceed sales targets and goals set by the store manager or supervisor.
- Stays informed about ongoing sales, promotions, and special offers to inform customers.
- Maintains good product knowledge including store products, features, and promotions to provide accurate information to customers.
- Ability to upsell and introduce customer loyalty plans including Club Holiday, Car Wash Subscriptions, and special promotional events.
- Ability to handle general cross-selling and upselling of store products and services.
- Collaborates with fellow cashiers in all store activities and responsibilities to complete tasks while keeping the customer in mind.
- Maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
- Stocks, cleans, and performs other duties as directed by store manager or assistant manager.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment that may include high transaction purchases periods daily.
Inventory Management and Merchandising :
- Keep s track of inventory levels, restocks shelves, and ensure s products are neatly displayed.
- Participate s in visual merchandising activities, including arranging displays, setting up promotional signage, and maintaining a visually appealing store.
Store Maintenance :
Ensure the store is clean, organized, and safe for customers,
Loss Prevention and Risk Management :
- Assist s with loss prevention efforts by monitoring for theft or suspicious activity and
- F ollow s proper security procedures.
- Reports maintenance and safety concerns.
Team Collaboration :
- Work s collaboratively with other team members,
- A ttend s staff meetings and training sessions.
- Collaborates with diverse teams throughout the company including customers, store employees, vendors, and Cottonwood Distribution service employees.
Cash Handling :
- Responsible for accurate cash handling, balancing registers, and following cash management procedures.
- Accurately p rocess es product returns, exchanges, and refunds according to store policies.
Skills and Education Requirements
- Must be able to speak English. Bilingual a plus.
- Retail experience desired
- Previous experience in customer service preferred
- Familiarity with electronic equipment, including cash register s and other POS equipment
- Basic math and computer skills
- Effective communication skills and ability to be customer-focused
- Ability to collaborate with the team to manage volume and the pace at work as a team.
- Must be at least 16 years of age or older
- Ability to learn about processes, product, and services throughout the store
- Ability to maintain composure in confrontational situations
- Ability to work in a high-volume, sometimes high-pressure environment.
- Ability to open and close as needed.
- Must be able to work in cold environments such as outdoor cold weather and indoor coolers.
- Must be able to work in the heat during summer months to perform duties outside.
