The PIC is a key component to the financial success of the Practice and is pivotal in helping patients arrange the financial side of the treatment that was presented to them by the clinical providers. The Patient Insurance Coordinator must have extensive knowledge of dental insurance benefits. Duties include verification of insurance, presenting treatment plans and explaining insurance benefits to patients, as well as following collection procedures to receive the payments from insurance. The PIC must have good communication skills that reflect their genuine interest and desire to help patients get the treatment they need. The PIC must have the ability to guide the patient through their options and an understanding of financing choices available.
Qualifications
Skills/Abilities:
· Has an expert level of knowledge regarding insurance benefits, coordination of benefits, insurance verification, benefits investigation and payer network participation.
· Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and account receivable theories and practices.

Work Environment/Conditions:
· Overtime and travel may be needed for training and to perform job functions

Responsibilities
· Ensure that all 4 of the steps of the Power Pass are completed before presenting financials using the Financial Stair-Steps procedures
· Educate and communicate to patients our practice Financial Policy, terms regarding their individual benefit plan, full comprehension of the expectations for payment of all services, and successfully collect estimated patient responsibility portion
· Solidify and configure fully executed financial arrangement agreements within practice guidelines for patients and assist the patient with options to include third-party finance applications, terms, interest rates, and re-payment obligations
· Verify patient’s insurance yearly and update new insurance and documentation in patient account
· Provide the Patient Scheduling Coordinator with accurate copays for patients prior to their appointment to facilitate effective time of service collections
· Maintain and update all fee schedules and procedure codes with updated pricing and insurance allowances
· Process, transmit, forward all insurance claims, daily including attaching all x-rays, narratives, perio charting, when required by insurance
· Serves as a liaison between insurance carriers and patients to resolve any concerns and maintain a positive working relationship
· Work the insurance aging, follow up regularly on insurance claims for outstanding payments and reimbursements
· Run and monitor weekly reports to verify insurance payments received in a timely manner and document status of outstanding insurance claims
· Update Insurance Coverage tables
· Follow up and negotiate insurance contracts
· Accept all forms of payments and be able to complete all processes associated with each
· Able to correctly schedule/edit appointment(s) and treatment plan(s) in Eaglesoft
· Follow office payment policy by posting all charges and payments to patient accounts and collecting payments from the patient at the time of service
· Able to assist and fill in at check-in, check-out, and answer telephones as needed (when PRC/PSC are unavailable)
· Be fully cross trained and able to perform all of the Patient Financial Coordinator duties if needed
· Facilitate and participate in morning huddles to ensure the day runs smoothly
· Open and/or close office daily as needed

· Attend training and continuing education classes
· Make recommendations to improve processes when needed
· Participate in all staff meetings

· Follow the organization’s safety policies and procedures through OSHA compliance and BBP (Blood-borne Pathogens) federal regulations

Education/Experience Required:
· Minimum High School Diploma or GED, some college preferred
· 2 years of experience performing accounts receivable and insurance related duties in a dental practice office
· Complete knowledge of Eaglesoft
· Working knowledge of common office computer programs; Word, Excel, Internet
· Experience working with the public via telephone and face-to-face conversation required
· Complete knowledge of dental procedures, dental insurance benefits and insurance billing codes

Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
