What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Assistant position at Hologic?
Hologic is seeking an IP Docket Assistant / IP Legal Assistant responsible for docketing for the in-house IP department. This motivated indivudual will be accountable to effectively partner across the Legal teams to ensure the accurate and timely administration and process of Patent and Trademark filings. Strong attention to detail and collaboration capabilities required to ensure seamless partnership and support of the required filings, actions and materials associated with patent and trademark matters.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- The Docket Clerk/Legal Assistant will be the primary point of contact for entry and oversight of patent and trademark filings, incoming office actions, formalities and any and all other correspondence related to the management, filing, prosecution, opposition, and litigation of patent and trademark matters for both domestic and international intellectual property rights.
- Responsible for entry of the day-to-day docketing of correspondence received by Hologic in the CPI database in electronic and physical mail formats from outside counsel and government websites.
- Responsible for intake and transfers to Hologic due to acquisition, including auditing Hologic records for accuracy in coordination with outside counsel.
- May generate docket reports and participate in trademark/patent, and other meetings relating to the management of projects, database management or IP docketing policy and procedures.
- May conduct research for pending matters using electronic research tools.
- May develop recommendations to improve operational processes for optimum results
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated working knowledge of domestic, PCT, and foreign patents and trademarks rules and regulations.
- Ability to interface with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website regarding patent and trademark matters with highest level of accountability, accuracy and diplomacy as needed
Qualifications:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the basic knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:
- Working knowledge of USPTO, PCT and foreign rules and regulations for patents and trademarks
- Experience and sufficient proficiency in one or more IP management systems (e.g., Anaqua, CPA, CPI, FoundationIP, etc.)
- Strong collaboration and willingness to partner and work effectively on joint initiatives
- Basic proficiency in Word, Excel, and PDF documents.
- Ability to interface with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website regarding trademark and patent matters.
- A self-starter, great work ethic, high attention to detail, responsive, and collaborative.
- Demonstrates a “can do” attitude and initiative to assist on a variety of projects.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate with colleagues including paralegal and attorneys located remotely and in local offices.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 2 years docketing experience.
