General Summary:
Supervisors must manage a shift of Officers and direct their duties and assignments on a daily basis. They must be courteous with customers at all times and be able to mediate disputes in a professional manner. Supervisors are required to: prepare work schedules for their shift. Supervisors must assess and evaluate activities of the shift and make appropriate decisions based on circumstances. Supervisors must interact with the community and county agencies. Supervisors must patrol all interior and exterior areas of Holy Cross Hospital (HCH) -owned or leased properties. Supervisors must participate in all training and development programs. Supervisor must be able to assume the Manager of Operations' duties in his/her absence. Supervisors must have the physical ability to stand for long periods of time and do extensive walking and climbing of stairs.

Minimum Licensure/Certification Required (if applicable):
Must submit to fingerprinting, FBI and State criminal history checks and/or background investigations.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Must have a high school diploma. Associates degree is strongly preferred.
- Must have at least 5 years security experience, preferably in a hospital or similar institution. Supervisory experience is preferred.
- Must have the attributes of a leader. Must be able to communicate and interact well with all levels of management, staff and others. Must be able to perform all tasks required of a security officer.
- Must have professional certification, such as Certified Protection Officer (CPO) or International Assn. for Healthcare & Security (IAHSS) or be able to acquire either of these certifications within 9 months from date of hire.
- Must be Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certified or be able to acquire this certification within 120 days from date of hire
- Must be Basic Life Safety (BLS) certified
- Must be a Special Police Officer (SPO) or must be able to acquire a Special Police Commission from the State of Maryland within 6 months from date of hire
- Must possess a valid drivers' license.
- Be certified in the use of Defensive Equipment within 120 days from date of hire.

A Supervisor at Holy Cross Hospital has resource monitoring and staffing responsibility for either a specific department function or for a certain shift and number of employees. Supervisors must have the ability to organize day-to-day work-flow and prioritize, adjust, and redistribute workload as necessary to assure that optimal service and resource use is achieved within the unit being supervised. The supervisor has primary responsibility to ensure that departmental and organizational policies are consistently communicated and that practice within their area of responsibility is aligned with these expectations. The supervisor is also the primary management contact for staff concerns, and directly oversees the communication of organizational objectives to the staff. Communication skills and the ability to educate staff are important elements of this job.
Working Conditions:
Physical Requirements: Physically must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to stand / walk for a minimum of 8 hours. Must be able to run to an emergency within the hospital and be able to verbally and physically control an emergency situation upon arrival, if necessary. Must possess strong sight and hearing abilities needed in order to effectively deal with diverse and emergency situations. Must have the ability to use enough force to subdue, arrest or restrain someone, if necessary. Must be able to:

- Each officer must be able to prove physical competency abilities before hire and annually, as a part of their annual review.

- Preparing and analyzing data and figures

- Visual inspection involving mobile activity of multiple individuals, including facial expressions and body language.

Environmental Conditions
- The worker is subject to a non-traditional office environment, exposure to outdoor temperature ranges from moderate to extreme cold and heat, subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to chemicals.
