Parent Partner (Part Time)
Rate: $19 per hour

Position Overview
Parent Partners provide active, hands-on peer support to parents of children within the welfare system. Parent Partners are individuals with lived experience in navigating the child welfare system personally who have personally achieved reunification. Effective peer support should be friendly, helpful, accessible, and flexible. The role of the Parent Partner is to advocate for families and work collaboratively with child welfare staff.

Essential functions
  • Engage, collaborate, and effectively communicate with Contract Supervisor, Deputy Director, and Child Welfare staff and service providers.
  • Encourage open dialogue, actively listen, and focus on rapport building with participants referred to services to be able to identify barriers and strengths of the families to assist in setting goals and actions steps.
  • Build connections with participants and community service providers to assist with eliminating barrier to reunification. Connect participants with identified community resources; assist in introducing and engaging the family with the community resource, ensuring they can access the service after transition.
  • Participate in MiTEAM, Fidelity, and other identified trainings to understanding the core principles for engagement and teaming with participants and learn methods for providing appropriate motivation, assess the level of encouragement, and identifying potential supports within their families and the community.
  • Meet weekly with participants to help them develop their own solutions to issues and provide support by attending court hearings, Family Team meetings, etc. to assist them in successfully achieving goals towards reunification.
  • Develop plans/strategies of how support can be provided to the participant during meetings to ensure culture, beliefs, experience, voice, and choice are heard by the Social Worker, FTM members, and are incorporated into the case plan.
  • Provide individualized, peer-to-peer support to participants on a regular basis, according to the identified needs of their family.
  • Under the supervision and guidance of the Contract Supervisor and Deputy Director, support and/or implement proactive responses to family in crisis, both during and after business hours as designated in the safety/ crisis plan.
  • Recognize, celebrate, and document family strengths, successes, and barriers within agency designated systems.
  • Abide by all licensing, contract, and agency processes to ensure tasks are completed timely, effectively, and within the developed structure.
  • Understand the importance of daily work attendance, and its impact on coworkers, the families we serve, and the agency.

Other duties
Perform other duties as assigned by one’s supervisor.

Qualifications Education and/or Experience
  • Experience with the Child Welfare system.
  • Candidates have a healthy and stable family situation with no current child welfare involvement.
  • Candidates involved with the Child Welfare System must have 5 years with successful reunification with their children with no additional child welfare involvement.
  • Candidates whose cases involved substance disorders must been substance free for at least 1 year; some programs require 18-24 months of sustained sobriety.
  • Licenses Needed:
    • Valid and Current Driver’s License. Meet State “Good Moral Character” guidelines.
  • Special Skills:
    • Ability to assess, interpret, and respond appropriately to verbal and non-verbal communications of participants and co-workers; ability to understand cause and effect relationships and the interrelatedness of one’s own behavior relative to the behavior of others; exceptional organizational and management skills, effective communication skills.
  • Physical Effort:
    • Driving; Lifting office supplies and client files (20 lbs. maximum)

  • Work Environment:
    • General Office, Agency Field
