Summary:

This position is responsible for general oversight, including staff management, and all day-to-day operations of the cafeteria.

Key Job Responsibilities:

1. Oversees and participates in day-to-day preparation of food and cleaning of kitchen facility.

2. Managing federal nutrition programs, conducting audit and monitoring site visits for compliance purposes.

3. Responsible for ordering food supplies, management of records and inventories, receiving food shipments and stocking shelves, rotating food coolers, refrigerators and freezers.

4. Assign duties to kitchen staff and volunteers; ensure effective organization of food services.

5. Plans healthy menus to control food costs and waste and to assure high quality products. Measures, mixes and cooks ingredients according to standardized recipes and guidelines of the Child Nutrition program.

6. Operating a variety of kitchen equipment safety such as: blenders, mixers, grinders and slicers to prepare food. Maintains cleanliness of all equipment used during preparation.

7. Observes, tests and tastes food being prepared to determine that all foods meet the cafeteria standards.

8. Assures food is stored, held and served according to health standards set by the Mississippi State Department of Health.

9. Adheres to cafeteria, school, and Diocesan policies, safety standards and good housekeeping practices.

10. Attends and participates in educational training sessions, in-services and meetings as scheduled.

11. Participate in continuing education for professional development. Maintain current food service licenses for self and the cafeteria.

12. Prepares and serves food for school-related events as needed.

13. Performs other related tasks as requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Understanding of the vision and values of Sacred Heart Southern Missions with a commitment to achieve the goals of the organization.

2. Redbook experience with positive audit results.

3. Interest in and ability to work with children in an elementary school setting.

4. Must be able to work well in a service capacity with other employees, clients and vendors to accomplish overall organizational and departmental goals.

5. Working knowledge of personal computer applications including word processing and email software. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

5. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision/instruction. Able to establish and meet deadlines.

7. Provide a positive nurturing atmosphere in the kitchen, cafeteria and school.

8. Provide excellent customer service.

Education/Training & Experience:

REQUIRED:

High school diploma or GED

A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in food management, menu planning, ordering of food supplies, budgeting and inventory in school environment.

Must possess valid driver’s license/ Safe Food Handling Certificate

Department of Child Nutrition and Red Book Experience a PLUS.

Working Conditions:

Work is moderate to heavy, involving frequent lifting of objects weighing 10 (ten) pounds to 60 (sixty) pounds. Occasionally lifting of heavy equipment or food supplies, weighing up to 60 (sixty) pounds or more. Considerable walking, bending, reaching, twisting, crouching and scrubbing. Exposed to heat, humidity, steam, corrosive or caustic chemicals, cooking odors, refrigerator temperatures and wet floors.

Pay Schedule: 26 pay periods

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.00 - $19.37 per hour
