A Brief Overview
Supervise Technologists/Technicians, Students and Section Operation in Histology. Inter-relationships: Laboratory and Hospital Personnel, Physicians, Patients, and Sales Professionals.

What you will do

• Verified test procedures performed and established laboratory's test performance characteristics, including precision and accuracy of each test and test system
• Establishes quality control program appropriate for testing performed and establishes parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance. Ensures that these levels are maintained throughout entire testing process from initial receipt of specimen through sample analysis and reporting of results.
• Develops written section policies and procedures in conjunction with Administration and Medical Directors
• Supervises maintenance of section records. Collects statistical data and prepares reports such as monthly statistical tallies, quality control data, quality assurance reviews, instrument maintenance and repairs
• Assures for cleanliness and order of the section and for the care, calibration and maintenance of the equipment.
• Enrolls in appropriate modules, participates and monitors performance of CAP and State (HHS approved) proficiency testing and analysis of results with corrective action.
• Effectively represents section and laboratory at all meetings.
• Respects patient and employee confidentiality at all times. Performs special procedures in addition to the routine clinical determinations and has a thorough knowledge of difficult principles, procedures and techniques. Has the ability to make independent judgments on the basis of scientific knowledge.
• Completes assignments in a timely manner, thoroughly and detailed.
• Maintains effective communication with staff members to provide effective problem resolution
• Trains staff according to hospital policy. Validates job proficiency on an annual basic and assures that staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently.
• Directly observes routine patient test performances, including patient preparation, specimen handling, processing and testing.
• Monitors the recording and reporting of test results. Review of intermediate test results and worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing results and preventative maintenance records
• Directly observes instrument maintenance and function checks.
• Assesses test performances through testing previously analyzed specimens, internal blind testing or external proficiency testing samples.
• Maintains complete department training records. Trains MLT students and new employees or designates training to appropriate section personnel.
• Ensures staff attendance at mandatory education seminars. Verifies their understanding of fire, safety and infection control guidelines.
• Evaluates work performance of section personnel and participates in hiring, disciplining and terminating personnel.
• Understands and complies with all hospital policies.
• Inspires confidence of employees and management team by remaining well informed, open-minded and communicative.
• Analyze and coordinates work loan and prepares daily departmental assignments relative to work flow. Utilizes laboratory equipment for optimal work flow and maximal productivity. Selects test methodology most appropriate for clinical use of test results.
• Maintains adequate inventory of equipment, reagents and supplies.
• Prepares and analyzes section operating, personnel and capital budgets.
• Evaluates and implements new procedures to improve laboratory services and contain cost.
• Designs and maintains a cost-effective departmental budget on an annual basis.
• Plans and organizes the daily operational duties using supportive personnel to maximum cost effective efficiency.
• Seeks opportunities to further refine expertise.
• Effectively serves as Laboratory Administration on a rotational basis

Education Qualifications

• High School Diploma Or equivalent experience Required
• Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree Required

Experience Qualifications

• 1-3 years Experience in a medical technology role. Required
• 1-3 years Supervisory experience. Required
• 1-3 years Experience as a medical technologist in a clinical environment. Required
• 1-3 years Supervisory/management experience required Required
