Job Title: ER Supervisor
Department: Emergency Registration
Position Summary: The ED Registration Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing and controlling the activities of the Emergency Department for optimum output, efficiency and goal attainment. Continuously assesses the department's operations to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Oversees the ED patient registration, ED patient admission functions, bed assignments and completion of preliminary paperwork for entering patients. Works well with medical, nursing and accounting staff to ensure appropriate patient placement. Manages the quality assurance report to ensure all registrations meet the standards of the department and bills go out clean for quick insurance reimbursement. Provides support to registrars as needed to ease some of the workloads during high volume times.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent experience, some college preferred. Ability to demonstrate leadership and professionalism, along with excellent communication skills, the ability to supervise staff, actively listen, problem solving and team building skills. Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and family members including Holy Name Clinical and non-clinical staff in a professional manner while being courteous at all times. Familiarity with federal and state regulations, insurance coverage, billing procedures and legality of the medical record. Combined with ability to make good judgments and clearly record and communicate same. Must be able to work well under pressure and experience with computerized data entry required, emergency room experience preferred.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Supervises staff to ensure the patients experience meets the A.I.D.E.T standard, reviews registrations for accuracy, monitors productivity and educates staff when needed.
- Communicates to and supports staff on the day-to-day operational procedures of the department. Documents any issues within the department that may affect the overall performance and keeps Manager informed of any developments and outcomes.
- Ensures staff follows departmental policy and procedures, JCAHO, State, CMS and any other regulatory agency guidelines, rules and regulations.
- Maintains the appropriate stock levels of supplies.
- Assist with or conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings; preparing hand outs and tools to review. Attends other departmental meetings as needed.
- Takes initiative and performs duties which need to be carried out, although not directly assigned.
- Prepares and maintains department staffing schedule in accordance with departmental policy and procedures.
- Is responsible for providing and maintaining departmental coverage 24/7.
- Develops an environment that promotes improvement theories and practices.
- Performs all duties as requested by Management team.
