In the librarian role (75%), in conjunction with other professional librarians, provides reference services and information literacy instruction.  Participates in department assessment activities, collection development and outreach activities.  In the archivist role (25%), oversees the archives function according to standard practices and plans digital expansion.  

LIBRARIAN (75%)

Reference Services:

  1. Collaborates with other librarians to provide reference services to the HCC community of faculty, staff and students.   
  2. Staffs the reference desk.
  3. Participates in the development and implementation of library policies and procedures for reference services.

Library Instruction and IL Assessment:

  1. Participates in the development and delivery of information literacy instruction in both in-person and online asynchronous environments in alignment with faculty needs; develops teaching materials;
  2. Assists in creating data informed assessments of library services to demonstrate effectiveness; 
  3. Participates in developing & maintaining library web pages; 
  4. Conducts orientation sessions, tours and classroom introductions to library services/resources. 

Outreach and Programming:

  1. Coordinates outreach activities by promoting the library and its services; Coordinates library participation in new student events;
  2. Coordinates the following ongoing outreach activities/programs – BUILD competition, Exhibits, Food Drive, and HCC Author Series. 

Collection Development:

  1. Assists with the management of the Library’s collection by: selecting resources for assigned disciplines; Developing guides and instructional tools to support learning; Weeding.

ARCHIVIST (25%)

  1. Carries out day-to-day archival practices (evaluates, selects, accessions, inventories, arranges, retrieves and ensures the long-term preservation of the college’s archives collection). 
  2. Prepares reference aids in established archival formats.
  3. Plans and executes digital projects with HCC stakeholders.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED:  
  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school, or closely related field; Coursework or certification in archives management, digital librarianship, or special collections.
  • Three (3) years’ experience and/or training that includes library operations, reference service, bibliographic instruction, circulation service, copy cataloging, and library information systems, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills; 
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.  
PREFERRED:  
  • Experience with assessment;
  • Teaching or training experience;
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Full-time, MCCC Unit Professional position

Salary Range: Grade 5; Minimum $64,292 - $70,133 /year. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.  Full State benefits package.

 

Start Date:  July 1, 2024

Hours:  37.5 hrs./52 weeks

Funding Source:  State
