Job Summary:
The general purpose of your job is to keep children who are clients of HOTI safe at all times and to be respectful of the children and their families as valued customers.

The Assistant Program Manager is responsible for direct supervision of all staff members within his/her respective cottage, in order to provide a therapeutic milieu conducive to residents’ implementation of individual treatment goals. In addition, the Assistant Program Manager actively aids in the development and evaluation of' staff. In cooperation with the Program Manager, the Assistant Program Manager coordinates staff training; communicates resident needs and mobilizes necessary resources with resident care staff, social services, medical/health or other professionals as appropriate. Other responsibilities include oversight of documentation; facilitating communication within the program; assisting with program development.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Assist Program Manager with coaching and development of direct care team members.
Duties/Responsibilities:Supervision and Professional Development:
  • Functions as a team leader within the program and in the absence of the Program Manager. This includes modeling of appropriate intervention strategies to ensure interventions are therapeutic, supportive, and effective.
  • Supervise, mentor, train, and develop Youth Support Specialists.
  • Participate in evaluation of employee performance.
  • Responsible for the administration of medication to clients. This includes review of the medication record and monitoring the administration to minimize medical errors.
  • Maintains Safe Crisis Management (SCM) certification and participates in all SCM interventions (Including Emergency Safety Physical Intervention -ESPI usage) with clients as needed.
  • Supervise all SCM incidents as they occur, provide debriefing, coaching, and training to Youth Support Specialists as needed to maintain optimal safety for residents and staff.
  • Assists in treatment planning to ensure appropriate services are available to address the emotional, behavioral, spiritual, and physical needs of the client.
  • Responsible for documenting resident progress, including any negative behaviors expressed, resident concerns, significant incidents, unusual occurrences and/or emergency events in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Responsible for transporting residents to appointments and activities.
  • Supervise the maintenance of the physical environment, equipment and supplies within the assigned unit and adjacent play areas, to maintain safe, secure and adequately supplied home for the children. This includes routinely reporting maintenance and supply needs, security problems and responding to emergencies as appropriate.
  • Monitor and manage the utilization of resident storage area to ensure it is kept neat, clean, and that all children’s belongings are clearly labeled. Ensure that an updated belonging’s list is kept on each resident.
  • Lead house shift change meeting to ensure that adequate planning is done before shift changes occur.
  • Assists in the development of the annual department budget and monitors the budget throughout the fiscal year.
  • Provide on-call emergency support.
  • Other duties as assigned based on management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job as needed.

  • Responsible for timely and accurate documentation of resident progress to allow for quality measures.
Communication and Collaboration:
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team centered around resident-focused care.
  • Responsible for consistent communication with team members and leaders.
  • Must be able to exhibit clear and therapeutic communication when engaging residents and team members.
Regulatory Compliance:
  • Responsible for timely and accurate documentation in adherence to regulatory requirements.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of youth mental health issues and treatment modalities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with licensing and accreditation standards.
  • Proficient with current Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Education and Experience:
  • Must have High School Diploma or GED; bachelor’s degree in a human service field (Psychology, Social Work, Counseling) is preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working in a child-caring facility is required. Two years (60 credit hours) of education from a college of university and two years of experience in a childcare facility is preferred.
  • Ability to participate in Safe Crisis Management interventions including Emergency Safety Physical Interventions (ESPI) is required.
  • Experience working with recovery-based treatment plans and behaviorally oriented programs is preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clear driving record.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
  • Must possess the ability to drive a passenger van.
Physical Requirements:
  • May be physically and emotionally demanding.
  • Works in office area(s), moves intermittently throughout the facility, and is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Work hours are flexible and may extend into evenings, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
  • Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training, conferences, or other professional development opportunities.
