What are the responsibilities and job description for the Private Tutor position at Home Tutor?
Are you passionate about education, and have a desire to help a school-aged student excel academcially? If so, we are looking for a Tutor with patience and energy to work one-on-one, in-home setting, 2 hours, for 2-3 days per week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays) for one child in grade 4 GT.
The ideal candidate has experience tutoring either elementary or middle school students in academic subjects including reading, writing and math. This is a position working primarily during after school hours (5 p.m. to 7 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.), be responsible for all assessments, lesson planning, student evaluation and data collection during the course of their tutoring.
Here are some educational topics that a forth-grader might benefit from learning:
1. Multiplication and division with numbers up to 10,000
2. Fractions, including identifying and comparing fractions and adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators
3. Reading and comprehension skills, including identifying literary elements such as plot, character, and setting, making predictions, and analyzing text for meaning
4. Writing skills, including writing complete paragraphs with topic sentences and supporting details, using descriptive language, and organizing ideas into essays
5. Basic grammar concepts, such as parts of speech, sentence structure, and punctuation
6. Science topics such as the water cycle, ecosystems, rocks and minerals, and electricity and magnetism
7. Geography topics such as landforms, climate, and the cultures and traditions of different regions of the world
8. History topics such as the American Revolution, the Civil War, and important historical figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and Susan B. Anthony
9. Basic computer skills such as using word processing software, internet research, and creating multimedia projects
10. Art and music appreciation, including learning about different art and music styles and creating original artwork and music pieces.
Third grader refresher:
1. Addition and subtraction with numbers up to 1,000
2. Multiplication and division tables up to 5
3. Reading and comprehension skills, including identifying main ideas and details, making predictions, and making inferences
4. Writing skills, including writing complete sentences, using correct punctuation, and organizing ideas into paragraphs
5. Basic grammar concepts, such as subject-verb agreement and common noun and verb forms
6. Science topics such as the human body, animals, plants, weather, and the solar system
7. Geography topics such as continents, countries, states, and basic map skills
8. History topics such as the founding of the United States and important historical figures like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln
9. Basic computer skills such as typing and using age-appropriate educational software and websites
10. Art and music appreciation, including learning about famous artists and musicians and creating artwork and music of their own.
