Homes for Independent Living (HIL) has been a leader offering residential services for adults who have a wide variety of disabilities since 1984. Our residents live in small group homes or apartment settings which allow for individualized attention and support. Our philosophy is simple: give people the opportunity to achieve goals, meet challenges, fulfill dreams, and ultimately live well.
We are currently hiring Crisis Respite Direct Support Professionals at our Transitions South location. Crisis Respite support staff are qualified, highly specialized staff who provide respite support. Respite employees are committed and trained to focus on providing for the needs of people supported: crisis stabilization, behavioral prevention and intervention, recreation at home and in the community, daily living activities, and personal care support as well as maintaining the residence.
The ideal candidate for this opportunity will be an emphatic and hard-working respite professional to provide quality care for a wide variety of clients. The pace/energy of the program varies depending on the clients being supported. Most clients who come to crisis respite like to engage and keep busy throughout the day. The behaviors exhibited vary with each client. Staff who work at Transitions should expect to encounter: physical aggression, verbal aggression, elopement, wandering, self-abuse, manipulation, suicidal ideations, false allegations, and other client specific behaviors. Staff are trained on each client’s specific behavioral support plan upon the client’s admission, which outlines the specific behaviors exhibited.
The service goal at crisis respite is to provide a short-stay, community-based crisis respite service alternative for stabilization and active treatment. In addition, we provide consultation when the short stay is coming to a close to promote the success of ongoing support services based on the unique needs of each individual. The scope of service does not accommodate mobile or immediate crisis response as an alternative to law enforcement. The service is intended to offer a community based option to achieve stabilization. The desired outcome of this service is determining customized support services built around each person focused on achieving long term wellness. Clients do not typically stay at Transitions longer than 120 days.
