Volunteer - Hospice Opportunity (UNPAID)

Join our wonderful team of Volunteers at Homestead Hospice of Rock Hill!

We would love to meet you and have you come in to our orientation classes. You can volunteer in any of the counties we serve which are: York, Chester, Lancaster, Union and Cherokee. Volunteers can help with a variety of things from clerical work to bereavement support to Patient Care.*

Job Summary:

To provide unpaid volunteer services to the hospice patients and their families.

Qualifications:

1. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
2. Ability to accept the changing needs of a hospice program
3. Sound judgment in regards to issues of death and dying
4. Available for training and continuing education
5. Interacts tactful, diplomatic, and humanistic manner with patients and families
6. Maintains all scheduled visits and adheres to Homestead Hospice policy and procedures
7. Office clerical volunteer must be 16 years of age or older

Responsibilities:

1. Completes the hospice volunteer training sessions and in-services.
2. Participates in hospice quality improvement programs.
3. Submits documentation of volunteer activity in an accurate and timely manner.
4. Adheres to all company policies and procedures
5. Communicates appropriate clinical information to the Volunteer Coordinator.
6. Provides spiritual and emotional support to patients and their families.
7. Maintains confidentiality of necessary information.
8. Reports all grievances or complaints made by patients or families to the appropriate persons.
9. Reports all allegations of patient abuse and/or misappropriation of patient’s property to Volunteer Coordinator.
10. Ensures that all services are provided with respect for patient rights.
11. Follows standard precautions and infection control procedures.
12. Reports all accidents and incidents observed to Volunteer Coordinator.
13. Thinks and acts calmly and logically to meet unusual occurrences of the job.
14. Communicates effectively with patients and families.
15. Must wear name badge
16. Offer privacy when necessary
    
17. Provide appropriate touch (on hands)
18. Contact Volunteer Coordinator if patient visit changes
