What are the responsibilities and job description for the Guest Service Coordinator (Graveyard Shift) position at HomewardBound of the Grand Valley?
The HomewardBound Guest Services Coordinator (GSC) is a non-exempt employee with HomewardBound who must hold to the Mission and Values of HomewardBound.
The GSC 1 reports directly to the GSC 2 Shift Lead, Guest Operations Director, and the Executive Director and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the HomewardBound Shelter and the activities that take place therein. The GSC must be willing to carry out the Mission, Values, Rules, and policies of HomewardBound.
- Security and Safety
- The GSC 1 is responsible for the security and safety of the facility and residents during his/her shift. This includes control of drugs, alcohol, or other hazards, which could jeopardize the purpose of the Shelter or its clients. GSC 1 must have a working knowledge of HBGV policies and procedures.
- It is the responsibility of the GSC 1 to see that situations that jeopardize the safety of the Shelter and its occupants are handled appropriately. This means handling difficult and unruly clients, as well as making certain that occupants are free from drugs, alcohol, and weapons.
- Sees to the welfare of outside guests by calling police, ambulances or opening the patio for shelter from the elements.
- Monitors and relays weather information to the Shelter Supervisor and or Director of Shelter Services in case overflow is needed. Also does the same for potential weather related emergencies.
- Shelter Operations and Program Support
- Shelter Operations:
- Enforces the facility rules and assists in implementing disciplinary actions, as needed/requested. This is done in cooperation with the GSC 2’s, on an individual basis.
- Participate in GSC Team Member meetings. May assist by taking roll call; raising issues of the house that need to be addressed, such as dress code or conduct; and setting an encouraging tone to begin each shift.
- Ensure the house is drug and alcohol-free by conducting scheduled and random walkthroughs and logging the results.
- The GSC 1 will maintain the dorm to the established standard (monitored through the daily walk-through).
- Chore Roster and Work Therapy:
- By means of the Chore Roster, the GSC 1 will manage train and coach guests in their job duties –and will know the whereabouts of guests at all times.
- Under the guidance of the GSC 2, and GOS, ESHC 1 will help train guests for their assigned job duties; and necessary soft skills that will benefit them as individuals and workers (mostly on-the-job style training).
III. Facilities
- Cleanliness: The GSC 1 is to see that the Shelter is cleaned according to the established standard. This includes daily cleaning, removal, dispersion, or storage of all clutter, trash, donations, parking lot trash, sidewalks, etc. There will be no unnecessary accumulation of anything. If you feel the Shelter needs something beyond what is normally understood to be mandatory, it must be cleared by the GOS or ED.
- Inventory: The GSC 1 will follow the established means of receiving recording monitoring and distribution of inventory supplies purchased by the Shelter for the daily operations and maintaining of the North Avenue Shelter.
- Maintenance: Through daily inspections, the GSC’s will generate a list of work orders for presentation to the Maintenance Coordinator.
- General Schedule: Sees that all services are started and finished according to schedule. (Check-in, Bed Check-in, Showers, Chores, Breakfast, Laundry, etc.)
- Other
- GSC 1 should understand his/her role in the daily running of the Shelter, including their specific shift's area of focus: whether cleanliness, bed check-in, and facility safety.
- GSC 1 must have a good working knowledge of the facility and program policies and procedures, operation of the facility, mechanical operation of the facility (including fire alarm, electric, gas, and water shut-off, etc.), how to control and track inventory, inventory and use of the maintenance room, general responsibilities, safety, employee handbook, and GIK (Gifts in Kind) receiving and distribution.
- GSC 1 must schedule time off with the GOS so there is always a staff member on duty during all shifts.
- It is of vital importance that the GSC 1 shows his presence throughout the facility throughout his shift.
- Other tasks as assigned by the GOS and ED.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) and at least one year of relevant experience.
- Strong communication skills both written and orally.
- Ability to resolve conflict professionally and respectfully while maintaining composure under pressure.
- Strong ethics and integrity with the ability to work with people of diverse cultural, educational, and religious backgrounds.
- Basic knowledge of Windows software applications.
- Work schedule as assigned.
