CAKE ARTIST
Primary Responsibilities

    Baking, filling, and crumb-coating cakes

    Making and working with Swiss meringue buttercream

    Making and working with fruit compotes, citrus curds, chocolate ganache, and caramel sauce

    Creating realistic sugar flowers and foliage

    Hand painting and hand lettering (experience with calligraphy or brush lettering is a plus!)

    Buttercream tinting, piping and texturing

    Tinting fondant and gum paste to match specific color swatches

    Making and working with Royal Icing (incl. cookie decorating)

    Working with edible gold leaf and metallic lusters

    Sculpting figurines

    Packaging cakes and desserts

    Delivering cakes (driver’s license and own car required)

    Assisting during workshops

    Consulting with clients and designing cakes

    Dishes and kitchen cleaning tasks

    Covering cake boards

    Maintaining tidiness of workstations

Required Skills & Character Traits

    Building layer cakes

    Frosting cakes in buttercream

    Experience with the “top-down” method of covering cakes in fondant

    Experience with the “paneling” method of covering cakes in fondant

    Extensive experience with sugar flowers (i.e. making and arranging them)

    Attention-to-detail

    Strong sense of color, proportion, and scale

    A keen interest in the visual arts of all kinds (painting, sculpture, fashion, textile design, etc)

    Excellent problem-solving skills

    Solid communication skills, ability to ask for help / guidance when needed, ability to take feedback constructively

    Excellent dexterity / fine motor skills

    Self-motivation

    Ability to comprehend instructions quickly

    Passion for the food and pastry industries

    Creative ambition

    Willingness to work weekends and holidays

    Ability to stand for long periods of time

    Ability to lift 50 lbs

Recommended Prior Educational / Work Experience

    Fine Arts

    Photography

    Customer service

    Baking and Cake Design

Details

    30-40 hours per week, based on workflow (our “peak” season is May-September)

    Tuesday-Friday with the occasional Saturday

    Starting rate: $18 /hour, DOE

    Position start date: Immediately
