Honeywell Aerospace Intern- LCA
Honeywell Aerospace is one of the largest manufacturers of aircraft engines that power aircraft or provide environmental controls, known as auxiliary power units (APUs) and other avionics and aviation products. Our headquarters is in Phoenix, Arizona, and we are the largest revenue division of the Honeywell International.
We are looking for an individual, on a graduate program track, to lead us in our LCA process. The duration of the internship is intended to be long enough to complete the scope of work listed above
The Role:
This is an internship that provides a manufacturing setting experience to use an industry accepted LCA protocol (e.g.: Product Life Cycle Accounting Reporting Standard) to assess Scope 1, 2 and 3 (S123) GHG emissions for each of the top 5 Aerospace products and develop the methodology and template to empirically estimate S123 for other products. The intern will work with Honeywell Product Engineering, HSE&F and Business Resilience Functions in Phoenix, AZ. The company has committed to be Carbon Neutral in 2035 and use of SBTi to reduce GHG emissions.
The top 5 products in scope include:
Below, will be the scope of the product inventory, consisting of a broad range of products and taking into consideration revenue and multi-site dependencies. The are ‘final products’ that create a portfolio of functional units sold into the aerospace industry.

Work scope includes:
· Methodology assessment and process map that will include: goal/scope and definitions; inventory analysis; impact assessment; and interpretation phases.
· Conduct the phases for: Supply Chain, Site Operations and In-Use activities. More specifically, these will include:
o Defining the business goals in coordination with the Aerospace team.
o Review of principles to be able to demonstrate the GHG accounting and reporting of a product inventory is done with: relevance, accuracy, completeness, consistency, and transparency.
o Review of fundamentals for lifecycle and attributional approaches.
o Defining scope to account for:
§ carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) emissions to, and removals from, the atmosphere.
§ Include assessing impact of engines/APU use when using conventional fuel and SAF.
§ Strategy to assess the impacts of other final products (establish empirically the key variables based on learnings of the top 5 products that can be used to estimate S 1, 2, 3 emissions).
§ Determine how to assess Product Repair and Overhaul and part recycling and rework as a benefit in the LCA GHG emissions (S123).
o Setting boundaries of the product GHG inventory to include all attributable processes any exclusions of attributable processes to create process maps and cradle-to-grave life cycle and non-attributable processes included in the boundary.
o Collecting and assessing data quality and writing.
o Performing allocation.
o Assessing uncertainty.
o Calculating inventory results and proposal on options to reduce GHG footprint of final products.
o Perform assurance and validating methodology and approach for identifying, quantifying and assessing the environmental impacts through the life cycle
o Determining the best way to report inventory results
o Working with the Aerospace team on a strategy to set reduction targets and create the framework for a ‘case study’
