PLANNING MANAGER

Hood Container is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Management team's Packaging Solutions division.  This position will support both the Louisville and Bowling Green sites.

Position Description:

This position is responsible for the development and execution of the Production Planning Process in the Bowling Green facility and potentially across multiple fulfillment plants.   The position also encompasses the leadership and daily execution of the internal Plant Service Process group.  

The Production Planning Process will include the Daily Plant Schedule, the Master Production Schedule, the Rough-Cut Capacity Plan, ownership of the forward-looking forecast, and the management of inventory and space requirements within the facilities.

The Plant Service Process will include all internal requirements associated with development of the work order packet and all information necessary for the production group to properly assemble a finished assembly, all internal information gathered and processed for the reporting of production, production efficiencies, and labor utilization information, and all external requirements for the posting and maintaining of multiple inventory systems (Hood Container’s system and Customer’s Systems as required).   

• PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Coordinate the activities of Material Planners and Plant Services support personnel. 
• Develop scheduling and planning strategies to maximize plant efficiency, effectiveness, customer satisfaction and safety.
• Develop daily production scheduling tools which will allow visibility to all appropriate parties to the Daily Production Schedule for as many days out as is feasible to maintain and communicate.
• Weekly production scheduling tools which allow visibility to a six-week plan (Master Production Schedule) – which includes capacity utilization information.
• Provide rough-cut capacity planning tools to enable visibility to capacity constraints.
• Coordination and implementation of all work order processes necessary to ensure all information is received and assembled into the work order packet in a timely manner. 
• Coordination with customer’s planning and logistics operations to determine most efficient methods of planning, executing, and reporting back to the customer on all aspects of operations.
• Management of inventory levels of manufactured and purchased items and disposition of inventories in excess of levels needed to support production.
• Reporting on the above monthly activity to management.
• Inventory control and management, product allocation from customers.  Determining when materials are no longer “active” and disposing of them promptly.
• Planning/scheduling production based upon established lead times.  Managing day-to-day increases/decreases in demand through interface with purchasing, manufacturing, assembly operation, and customer service.  
• Verification of work order packets and release of work orders to the production floor
• Ensuring that all materials are in the plant to complete work orders. Managing the MRP process.
• Coordination with purchasing group for the timely receipt of goods purchased for resale.
• Coordination with manufacturing and customer service on the receipt of corrugated products.
• Coordination with quality on any projects which require specific customer quality requirements and guidelines.
• Coordination with customer’s planning and logistics operations on customer inventory receipt/release
• Managing the link between demand management (sales forecast) and plant assembly scheduling (supply side).  Balancing all resources (labor capacity, line capacity & machine capacity) necessary to ensure that the customer’s due dates are adhered to, or that the customer is informed of any changes arising from over capacity situations.

• EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

• 2-4 years experience computerized inventory tracking/management – knowledge of JD Edwards or AmTech system a plus.
• 2-4 years experience in material management
• Bachelor’s degree
• SAP Knowledge
