Assistant Director of Development
ABOUT US
The Hope Center, Inc. is a well-respected and leading recovery organization in Lexington, Kentucky-the second largest city-that cares for the homeless and at-risk persons by providing life-sustaining and life-rebuilding services that are comprehensive and address underlying addiction causes.
PURPOSE
The Assistant Director of Development is part of the Development Department and is responsible for assisting with the fundraising and communication efforts of the Hope Center and One Parent Scholar House. This includes, but is not limited to, special events, the cultivation of new and on-going individual and corporate donors, public and media relations, and donor database management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage production of solicitations for both Hope Center and One Parent Scholar House, including but not limited to, mail appeals, emails, phone calls and non-governmental grant applicants.
- Organize and administer designated special events/fundraisers.
- Secure and communicate with vendors, including contract negotiation and signing.
- Solicit event sponsorships.
- Oversee all event planning including logistics and execution.
- Create and maintain event budget, including paying vendors and following up on outstanding revenue.
- Recruit and supervise event volunteers.
- Ensure sponsor communications and benefits are executed according to sponsorship package.
- Assist with donor cultivation.
- Prepare proposals for individual donors.
- Prepare sponsor packages for corporate donors.
- Assist with gift and pledge agreement paperwork.
- Oversee donor database for all necessary development purposes, including but not limited to:
- Research current and prospective donors.
- Creating and exporting database reports and lists for department use.
- Populating and keeping donor and prospect data up to date, include regular data health checks.
- Identifying donor information/trends.
- Create and maintain donor database guidebook for current and future use in department.
- Consistently working to improve, update, and add to database.
- Manage portfolio of assigned donors in collaboration with Director of Development.
- Make decisions on behalf of the Hope Center in the absence of the Director of Development.
- Assist with development department administration as needed, including but not limited to:
- Answer and transfer phone calls, screening when necessary.
- Welcome and direct visitors and clients.
- Assist with development department functions as needed, including but not limited to:
- Tours
- Community presentations
- Media relations
- Oversee and make decisions in regards to department vendor/contractor/consultant relationships and donor outreach.

This position must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, ethical practice, relationship management, critical evaluation, proficient computer skills, and the ability to work with persons in a way that shows sensitivity to cultural diversity, sexual orientation, and racial/ethnic differences.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
The required education and experience for this position are:
- Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications or another related field.
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in job related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Proficient computer skills.
HOURS
This is a full-time, exempt position. Hours of work for this position are regularly scheduled for Monday – Friday; 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, must be able to adapt to a flexible schedule, requiring some night and weekend hours at times.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
