Description:
The Registered Nurse provides planned and highly skilled nursing care for the ambulatory and pre-operative patient. Through continuous patient monitoring, allows for early recognition of medical or surgical complications, which may arise in any patient.
Responsibilities:
- Complete post-surgical follow-up with patient and communicate any issues/concerns with surgeon.
- Review discharge instructions with patients. Ensure follow-up appointments are scheduled and communicated through other ancillary department and off-site offices.
- Interface with appropriate hospital staff to ensure a cohesive working relationship in providing patient care.
- RN Admits patient to Phase II PACU and prepare patient for upcoming surgery/procedure.
- Administer medication, IV therapy and drips as ordered.
- Registered Nurse Admits patient to Phase II Surgery or Phase I and evaluate needs of patient, administering care accordingly. Compare stability of VS with pre-anesthetic/pre-operative level to establish parameters.
- Discharge patients from Phase II to home or other appropriate place according to Physician’s order.
Requirements:
- Graduate from accredited School of Nursing is required.
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in State of Illinois is required.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills with patients, staff, as well as ancillary staff in various offices.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to accept and implement new ideas and approaches is required.
- Knowledge of Phase II PACU/secondary recovery for ambulatory out-patient service is required.
- Knowledge of Physiology, Pathophysiology, Geriatrics and Critical Care is required.
- Must be thoroughly familiar with the Pharmacodynamics of anesthesia and analgesia.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac life Support (ACLS) are required.
- Commitment to a professional organization (i.e., ASPAN, AACN, AORN, etc.) is preferred.
- Knowledge of Ambulatory Surgery, OR nursing, and operative procedures is strongly preferred.
