Summary:

Strategizes on opportunities to enhance student recruitment and enrollment as well as implementing and managing school-wide parenting initiatives and activities to empower parents/guardians to become positive active participants in the education of their children.

 

 

Qualifications/Education:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associates degree or 60 or more college hours preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in community-based outreach program

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of campus instructional operations and school community demographics.
  2. Ability to work with culturally diverse community of educators, students, parents, and community members.
  3. Ability to present to parents, students, principals, and campus staff.
  4. Ability to use technology, software to develop spreadsheets and databases, and do word processing.
  5. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  7. Knowledge in marketing and public relations strategies.
  8. Ability to perform duties remotely and/or on a flex schedule, upon approval by superintendent, in response to pandemics, natural disasters, catastrophic events, etc. and will be subject to virtual/distance learning policies and procedures as set forth in employee handbook.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Parent and Community Relations

  1. Serve as liaison between school and home, establish trusting relationships and welcoming environment, and serve as a point of contact for families.
  2. Establishes and administers programs for targeting, recruitment, and retention of students for the district.
  3. Work directly with the campus principal to support parent outreach efforts that will impact student achievement; assist with Title I, Part A Parental Involvement requirements.
  4. Assist parents and guardians to navigate the school system, assisting with awareness of available campus, district, and community social services and their attainment.
  5. Develop, maintain and utilize appropriate information management systems (SchoolAdmin) and records essential to attain goals.
  6. Assist to identify student and parent needs, work closely with school staff to coordinate services for students and families and provide community referrals to families, as needed.
  7. Coordinates and organizes campus activities.
  8. Maintains school newsletters, correspondence, videos, social media platforms, etc.
  9. Organize opportunities for parents to share concerns and input regarding their children’s educational needs.
  10. May communicate with campus administrator to identify students with attendance issues and other needs as requested.
  11. Collaborate and co-facilitate with administrators and teachers during parent and family involvement activities.
  12. Work with bilingual parents, guardians, and staff to ensure use of interpreter services as available for parent-teacher conferences, school meetings, and activities.
  13. Prepare outreach materials for distribution in language(s) of parents and guardians; ensure multilingual signs, bulletin boards, and other displays are visible at school entrance/lobby to welcome all parents and provide information.
  14. Conduct outreach activities, surveys, and coordinate parent involvement opportunities.
  15. Develop ongoing relationships with community-based and local faith-based organizations; articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support.
  16. Attend appropriate parent and family engagement trainings and meetings, Parent Teacher Association and other support meetings, and relevant meetings within the community, as assigned.
  17. Effectively recruit and retain parent/guardian volunteers.
  18. Collect parent/guardian volunteer packets and submit to the human resources department on a timely basis for volunteer approval.
  19. Work with campus staff to plan, implement and evaluate the use of volunteers/mentors on a systematic basis parental volunteer surveys.
  20. Maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and employee personal information.
  21. May perform home visits as needed.
  22. Participate in and assist with community involvement committees as requested.

 

Policies, Reports, and Law

  1. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
  2. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
  3. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

 

Equipment Used:

 

Computer, telephone, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator and other standard office equipment and peripherals.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, kneel/squat, bend/stoop, push/pull, twist and walk.  Repetitive had motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse is required with occasional reaching. The employee must occasionally do light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).  Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over); may be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning of students with disabilities. Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise; regular districtwide travel to students’ homes and occasional statewide travel.  Employee must work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress. Employee may work prolonged or irregular hours.
