Position Summary The Translational Medicine (TM) team is seeking a highly motivated Scientist I to lead the development of target engagement, pharmacodynamic and biomarker assays, in the context of drug development across the Horizon pipeline and a variety of therapeutic areas. The candidate will be responsible for the design, development, optimization, validation and execution of assays, as well as interacting with and managing vendors and contract research organizations (CROs). Responsibilities Drive, design and lead assay development, validation and optimization of a variety of biochemical and cell based assays Maintain awareness of novel approaches and technologies to identify opportunities to improve current procedures and/or establish new assay platforms Identify and proactively troubleshoot technical issues, implement solutions under limited supervision Manage CROs to establish assay development, assay validation and assay transfer for biomarkers to appropriate regulatory standards Strong understanding of the drug development process Build strong and collaborative relationships across functions to establish and manage timelines, workflows, and documentation. Responding appropriately and quickly to changing priorities to meet timelines Review data generated by CROs on clinical samples using validated assays; quality control the data and summarize inconsistencies and outliers Engage and communicate effectively with CROs and TM team members to deliver quality-controlled data to support internal decision making Qualifications and Skills Required A BSc in Biological science, biotechnology or related field with 4 years of relevant assay development and industry experience Track record of successful design, optimization and execution of assays for drug development Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing and competing priorities and ambiguity. Demonstrated success using in-house and external resources to develop, optimize and validate assays Prior experience with pre-clinical or clinical drug development teams is preferred Familiarity with a variety of assay platforms and a strong bioanalytical mindset Experience in multi-color flow cytometry preferred, including analysis using softwares such as FlowJo and FCS Express Lab work will be required; perform lab work independently Strong planning, organization, and project management skills Professional, proactive demeanor; Strong interpersonal skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
