About The Role
Reporting to the Manager of Field Operations, The Field Operations Technician will configure, install, test, troubleshoot and maintain high-speed fiber optic telecommunications equipment, circuits, rings, and networks. Assignments will consist of scheduled installations and maintenance as well as break fix call outs as events occur. The technician will work with Service Delivery and OSP Engineers along with other departments to ensure all work is completed on schedule, accurately, safely and to the standard the company has set and to exceed our customers’ expectations.

What We Offer
Medium work: Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work.

- Install, test, provision and maintain various types of telecommunications equipment in an optical fiber network adhering to engineered design.
- Perform all testing of network equipment to ensure adherence to all company and manufacturer’s specifications.
- Work with Fiber Optic, SONET, Ethernet and SDH related test equipment including OTDR/Light Meter, PMD, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, BER Test Sets, Multi service ethernet testers, etc.
- Prompt communication and updating of orders, documentation, etc.
- Perform site survey of customer locations with OSP Engineers when necessary.
- Work with other departments such as NOC, OSP Engineering, Service Delivery, etc. to ensure customer is being supported and issues or concerns are resolved in a timely matter.
- Label all equipment and cabling according to Network Engineering Diagrams.
- Perform network site audits and recommend changes and improvements as needed.
- Perform both hardware and software updates and or changes to equipment as needed.
- Perform post construction quality inspections to ensure contractors’ work has met the standard set by the company and the scope of work requirements.
- Communicate inventory and material needs to the Field Operations Manager
- Complete and maintain records of work completed on assignments and records related to customer sites, network and equipment as needed for future support.
- Availability to perform on-call work on a 24-hour basis as prescribed to include nights, weekends, and holidays. On-call work will be on rotation.
- Work independently for extended periods of time.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required and assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience performing installation and maintenance of fiber optic telecommunications equipment.
- Valid Driver’s license required.
- OSHA 10 - 30-hour Certification preferred.
- Working knowledge of SONET, WDM and Ethernet 10/100/1000BaseT networks and hardware
- Testing and maintaining fiber optic networks and services
- Operating a variety of telecommunications test equipment in fiber optic and copper environments.
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn tracking and software programs.
- Skilled with use of power tools and equipment related to installation and maintenance of network equipment.
