MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING MANAGER
Lead the engineering and engineering team of Hornet’s proudly American-made OEM industrial equipment sold and installed around the world. Live in the Wichita/Valley Center area and work from our production facility in Valley Center, KS.

Hornet designs, builds, manufactures, sells, and services its OEM industrial manufacturing cutting machines all under one roof in its Valley Center, KS- based production facility. Hornet is a small, robust Company making BIG machines with a BIG global footprint. Hornet is seeking a professional able to lead, manage, and elevate the engineering department to the highest standards. Our ideal candidate is experienced in engineering original industrial manufacturing equipment, who has proven experience in manufacturing engineering applications, including the R&D, design, and changes of large, OEM engineered products with many components. The ideal candidate takes great pride in creating and maintaining processes and workflow that results in reproduceable, error-free designs that are robust but affordable to build. HOURS
- 7:30 AM-5 PM Monday through Friday, generally.
- We work to the mission, not the time clock, so there will be times hours outside of this will be necessary to get the mission done.
PAY
- This is a salary, exempt position. As such, you will not be eligible for overtime.
- $80K (Actual starting salary based on experience, skill and education.)

THE ROLE (AN OVERVIEW)
The role is responsible for leading the engineering team; efficiently and sustainably administering and managing the engineering department’s processes to schedule and on-time completion, including leading, managing, coaching, and assigning staff accordingly.
Core Accountabilities
- Leads the engineering department - its functions and employees - in the development of new products, solutions, and processes.
- Manages the engineering department employees, resources, and the functions and responsibilities of the department, ensuring that human and nonhuman resources are utilized responsibly.
- Holds reports accountable to the core values, and their individual roles and responsibilities to ensure projects are completed on time, per scope, and per budget.
- Estimate and executes timelines for machine design, revisions, projects, and special projects.
- Executes project plans, schedules, and budgets
- Enters machines into the Company’s ERP System.
- Selects vendors based on product quality, availability, and cost.
- Coordinate, delegate, and assist to ensure engineering projects are completed on time and to budget.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engineer and oversee the engineering of OEM cutting machinery to produce the best, most robust machine designs for the lowest cost. Designs, implements, and refines product development, testing, and manufacturing processes.
- Strives to improve efficiency and sustainability of processes and product designs, and to reduce waste.
- Secures the resources needed for teams to excel, including researching and proposing capital investments.
- Attends trade shows and conferences and makes site visits to suppliers’ facilities from time-to-time, when assigned.
- Advocates on behalf of team members by securing adequate resources for success.
- Maintains high level expertise in their field or sector.
- Assures that processes meet quality and safety compliance guidelines.
- Collaborates with other team leaders and departments.
- Forges and maintains relationships with suppliers and customers.
- All other tasks or responsibilities that management may assign.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering or related discipline.
- Strong leadership and proven success at managing people for at least three years.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering concepts and industry standards, processes, and procedures.
- Minimum 7 years’ job-related experience.
- SolidWorks experience
- Experience managing projects with a proven track record of successful completion.
- Excellent verbal, drafting, and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to develop project schedules and management of execution of schedule and key milestones.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experienced in working within an AS9100 quality system.
- Experience in Yaskawa Sigma Select (or any other servo drive tuning software).
- Demonstrated computer skills- CAD software tools and multi-tier job costing software tools.
- Fluency in AutoCAD Electrical
- Fluency in C and Visual Studio
