General Job Description

Under general supervision, performs service, administrative, and clerical support for the Detention Center in processing, inputting, maintaining and updating all inmate data and information regarding current holding status, booking, release, court appearances or related information in order to track an inmate’s confinement status. The Detention Clerk is responsible for preparing required court documents for transfer to other court ordered programs and/or institutions. Must be able to work flexible shift schedule in a corrections center environment operating directly with inmates. Shifts are 12.25 hours.

Duties for this Position
  • • Processes, inputs, updates, files, verifies and compares inmate data and related records. • Obtains initial personal data from detainees processed into the detention facility, enters information and charges into the computer according to established procedures and formats. • Reviews criminal report affidavits from law enforcement officers for accuracy. • Conducts checks for county, local, state and nationwide warrants through local databases and NCIC. • Records all cash, financial instruments brought into the facility by an inmate. • Maintains and balances a cash drawer for processing inmate money, bonds and/or fines. • Compiles inmate release forms and data for review with the supervisor, releases money and gives a copy of the signature sheet to the booking cashier with all cash released/received. • Updates the inmate arrest records accordingly. • Inputs court document information into the jail management system. • Responds to inquiries concerning the status of an inmate based upon current written guidelines. • Operates and manages security control computers, radios, telephone, paging and CCTV view stations in Central Control. • Screens, inventories and manages inmate property including valuables and clothing. • Assists co-workers in any needed capacity. • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Requires high school diploma with two years of practical training and experience in performing moderately complex clerical and administrative support work that demonstrates the ability to maintain accurate and complete documentation and records, preferred but not required, in law enforcement, corrections or criminal justice environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must have clear criminal history, must possess a valid driver’s license with no prior DUI or DUS convictions within the past five (5) years. Credit history must show sound financial management. Employee will be NCIC certified within six months of hire. Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check.
