Blue Butterfly Counselor - PRN

The Blue Butterfly PRN Counselor will provide individual, family, and group bereavement counseling, education, crisis interventions, to all assigned clients. This position may also provide grief workshops/seminars, resource information and referrals to other agencies as appropriate.

Primary tasks, duties, and responsibilities:

  • Conducts intake assessments of children and families to determine eligibility for grief support services and group readiness for the Blue Butterfly program.
  • Assesses need for counseling related to risk assessment for pathological grief, risk of suicide, abuse, or neglect.
  • Facilitates evening and weekend support groups for children, adults and families on an ongoing basis to meet community’s bereavement needs.
  • Provides individual, group, and family grief counseling to children, teens, and adults from the Blue Butterfly program.
  • Assists with special events, outings, crisis interventions, and camps for bereaved children, adults and families.
  • Assists with curriculum planning for grief support groups at all locations.
  • Assists with orientation, training and ongoing communication with volunteer facilitators who participate in Blue Butterfly support groups.
  • Maintains documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), including written Plan of Care, and ensures that services provided, and contact made are documented as required for surveying and accrediting agencies.
  • Responsible for complete confidentiality of client records
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Educational/Professional:

    • Licensed in the State of Florida in one of the following:
    • Social Work (LCSW) or
    • Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or
    • Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or
    • Has applied for one of the above licenses and will be licensed in the State of Florida within 90 days of hire OR
    • License eligible (Registered Intern) in the State of Florida in one of the following:
    • Social Work (RCSWI) or
    • Mental Health Counselor (RMHCI) or
    • Marriage and Family Therapist (RMFTI) or
    • Has applied for one of the above licenses and will be licensed as a registered intern in the State of Florida within 90 days of hire or
    • Hired into this job prior to 1/1/23 and has a minimum of a master’s degree in either Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy. This does not include colleagues who had attained and are no longer licensed or license eligible.
    • Good clinical, counseling, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Office Suite, and Empath Health related software programs.
    • Ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships, utilizing problem-solving techniques.
    • Ability to anticipate and handle any bereavement situation, including crisis interventions.
    • Knowledgeable and able to speak comfortably regarding the stages of dying and post death bereavement and the grieving process with patients, care givers, colleagues, and community.
    • Must be able to travel within Empath Health’s service areas as needed during daylight and nighttime hours in all weather conditions and abide by organizational motor vehicle record (MVR) guidelines.
    • Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours to accommodate children and family schedules.
    • Possess a current Florida drivers’ license, state required auto insurance coverage, and reliable transportation.
              Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: 

    • Good clinical, counseling, presentation, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
