  • QUALIFICATIONS
    • Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
    • Required: Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Connecticut.
    • Required: Minimum of 3-5 years recent, progressive clinical experience in a setting relevant to the population served.
    • Required: Demonstrated leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills. Experience with quality improvement and evaluation of performance metrics.
    • Required: Demonstrated professional engagement and commitment to lifelong learning. Ability to collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team.
    • Required: Bachelor's Degree in health care field or matriculation in a bachelor's program
    • Preferred: Master's Degree in Nursing
  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Clinical Effectiveness Leader skillfully combines a primary focus of Clinical Knowledge with Performance Improvement. The individual has a track record of taking ownership, driving new outcomes, and building collaboration from front line staff to the executive level within a system-wide healthcare environment utilizing a matrix management structure.

      The Clinical Effectiveness leader will be responsible to be a visible force in the clinical area for providing leadership and direction for multi-disciplinary workgroups, using proven performance improvement methodologies to ensure clinical and/or operational effectiveness, quality outcomes, patient safety, and improve patient/family satisfaction. This position serves as a facilitator between project teams, hospital leaders, and physicians to promote standardization of structures, processes, materials, education and support throughout the organization. This individual plays a key role in identifying, developing and mentoring leaders and other system individuals who can create and nurture an approach for performance improvement throughout the work day across all facets of service.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • This job requires continuous periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, with periodic sitting. Occasional climbing, squatting, and kneeling as related to patient care. Job requires the ability to push/pull up to 60 pound to assist with patient transfers. Position occasionally requires lifting patients and carrying items up to and over 75 pounds. In addition, this job requires frequent use of gross, fine motor and sensory skills in order to pass medications, perform assessments and treatments, and handle equipment used in patient care.
  • COGNITIVE DEMANDS
    • Job requires independent problem identification abstract reasoning and adaptability to changing environments and information. Application of previously acquired knowledge, flexibility of thought and organizational skills are necessary. Quick decision making is required. A high degree of selective attention, discernment, perception and concentration is necessary.
    • Job requires a written proficiency in English, including attention to detail, adherence to all elements of style, and ability to postulate. A working knowledge and familiarity with professional/medical terms and definitions is required.
    • Job requires a high-degree of communication skills including expression of abstract/complex ideas, use of negotiation and active listening, and an ability to dialogue with multiple parties. Must be able to teach and assess skills of staff members.
    • Job requires reading and auditory comprehension of abstractions and an ability to make inferences. A working knowledge and familiarity with professional/medical documentation is necessary.
    • Job requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with all units of measure, and the ability perform these operations with common and decimal fractions. Must be able to compute ratio, rate, and percent and perform arithmetic operations involving units of weights, measures, and volume.
  • WORK DEMANDS
    • Job requires working indoors in an occasionally noisy and distracting environment. There is an occasional need to be outdoors. Job requires working continuously with others. Schedule fluctuation may be required to meet the demands of the position. Maintains 24 hour oversight to monitor implementation of the patient's plan of care. Job involves handling blood and body fluids. Response to emergencies is required.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Demonstrates outcome-based decision making and the implementation of evidence-based strategies to improve performance and reliability at the front line point of care.
    • Facilitates and mentors staff related to evaluation of patient conditions, adverse events serious safety events critical thinking leading to effective care decisions.
    • Provides clinical consultation and mentoring to peers based on area(s) of expertise.
    • Collaborates with other frontline leaders, Clinical Managers, and other discipline team members to determine effective resource utilization and management of patient care issues through innovative projects to improve quality, efficiency, safety and reliability.
    • Creates a High Reliability Culture in the Department in consort with the Management team.
    • Serves as representative of the service area on hospital-wide committees including Patient Safety, Quality Committee, Serious Event Review Committee (SERC) or similar activities.
    • Serves as a resource by providing knowledge of regulatory standards and accreditation processes.
    • Working with Management and educators assures Evidence Based Practice is utilized in all PI activities. Provides education in the approach and methods of quality assessment and improvement to enhance group knowledge of CQI including frontline staff
    • Responsible for providing the framework, coordination and direction for systematic monitoring and evaluating the quality of nursing and patient care against national and internal benchmarks. Collects, analyzes, and evaluates patient outcomes data in order to anticipate and mitigate potential patient risk and to enhance the professional practice environment at the unit level.
