GENERAL:

POSITION SUMMARY:  Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical, emergency and/or perinatal and nursery settings. Communicates with physicians/providers/Director of Nursing/co-workers as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Provide patient care and assist with patient’s ADL’s in a competent and caring manner to all patients.  This may include:  newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and the elderly
  2. Provide patient teaching in all areas of responsibility in a timely manner
  3. Order entry, assure physicians orders are carried out in an appropriate and timely manner
  4. Maintain current nursing care plans/nursing diagnoses documentation appropriate to assigned area
  5. Complete and update, timely and accurate assessments on all patients under his/her care within 1 hours of admission
  6. Demonstrates ability to delegate tasks according to competency level
  7. Stays updated on nursing policies and procedures
  8. Pharmacy entry/medication reconciliation, administration of all medications (I.V., PO, SQ, etc.) and biologicals in accordance to State Law
  9. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and reports and/or treats appropriately
  10. Planned and emergency admission, discharge and transfer of a patient

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

The Registered Nurse shall:

1.         Current Wyoming Registered Nurse license in good standing

2.         Previous experience working in a medical or health care facility preferred but not required

3.         Must possess communication skills to relate to the public in person

4.         Demonstrate good organizational abilities

5.         Seeks proficiencies in computer applications, e.g. word processing, spread sheets,             database, presentation, and project publication.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret appropriate journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write policies and procedures that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and is knowledgeable in metric and apothecary.   

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to modify care based on the developmental / functional age of the patient as well as that of the patient's ethnic background.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

 

  • BLS, ACLS (obtain ACLS within 1 year of hire) 
  • PALS (within one year of hire)
  • NRP (within one year of hire)

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to interact with patients, families, visitors and co-workers.  Ability to interact assertively and tactfully when dealing with conflict and in group solving activities.  Ability to demonstrate a professional, open minded approach in identifying problems and resolving problems/conflicts.

 

AGE SPECIFIC:

Must be able to provide care according to the developmental level and or chronological patient served.  This includes, but is not limited to, identifying the needs and abilities of each patient, and demonstrating an understanding of how a patient’s chronological and developmental age influences his/her need for adaptations related to his/her abilities.  Also, an understanding of how a patient’s age impacts his/her ability to deal with and adapt to the care needed/provided is required.  General census of neonatal to geriatric patients.

While filling this position, the employee must regularly lift and or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.  This position also requires walking or standing to a significant degree.  This position also requires reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, and hearing, stooping, bending, crouching, and working with equipment.
