What are the responsibilities and job description for the Carousel Barback position at Hotel Monteleone?

Summary

The Carousel Bar Barback position is the assistant to the Bartenders. The Carousel Bar Barbacks work behind the bar next to the Bartenders. The Barbacks’ duties are similar to those of the Bartenders.

Essential Functions

To perform the Carousel Bar Barback position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Get ice for all the wells

· Prepare fruit trays; make sure there are some backups

· Restock the bar with beer, liquor, wine, glassware, juices, etc.; make sure everything that is needed is at the bar and that there are enough backups for the shift

· Check draft beers to make sure the kegs are working properly

· Change out empty kegs (Note: Do not lift a keg by yourself. Always get somebody to help you and always lift with your legs and not with your back)

· Make sure the bar is clean before opening it

· Wipe the bar top constantly

· Help the Bartender with anything needed

· Make sure the beer cooler is clean and organized

· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Language Ability

  • Effectively interact and communicate in English with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Write simple correspondence
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the hotel

Math Ability

  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Compute rate, ratio and percent
  • Draw and interpret bar graphs

Reasoning Ability

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions

  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

Certificates and Licenses

· Must be of legal age according to State regulations to serve alcohol

· Possess a valid Louisiana Responsible Vendor Permit, CARE for Servers Card or TIPS card

· Available and willing to attend a Responsible Vendor’s class and pass the test with a score of 90% or better

Work Environment

· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

· The position is locate in a bar setting where the temperature settings are controlled

Physical Demands

· Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds

· Regularly talk or hear

· Frequently stand, use hands to fingers, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms

· Occasionally walk

· Safely navigate multiple flights of stairs

Position Status and Availability

· Available to work a full-time, flexible (AM or PM) shift, Monday - Sunday including holidays

Education and Experience

· A high school diploma or general education degree (GED)

· At least one (1) year of customer service experience

· At least one (1) year of high volume restaurant or bar experience

Job Type: Full-time
