What are the responsibilities and job description for the Live-in Nanny position at Household Staff?
Live‐in Nanny position
LOCATION: Golden Beach, Florida
We are a warm, kind family of 5 looking for a live‐in nanny in North Miami (Golden Beach). Our family is originally from Brazil but has lived in the US for over 20 years, and we have kids aged 11, 9 and 7. We also have a lovely 2‐year‐old medium‐sized dog. We love the outdoors and generally will spend 2‐3 months of the year in Colorado, where we have a second home. We expect the nanny to travel with us to Colorado during the summer (generally from mid June through mid‐August), with extra pay. We value stability more than anything : we have 3 full time employees, all of which have been with us for over 5 years.
The nanny will be responsible for:
6:45 – 10:15 AM
Preparing breakfast starting 6:45 AM ; helping as needed to drive kids to school (they go to two different schools). Cleaning up breakfast upon return. Tidying up the kids rooms/playroom and doing the laundry for the kids.
3:15 – 8:15 pm
Helping with pick‐up / drop off school / after school activities. Ensuring kids have what they need / are where they should be at all times. After kids are home, ensure that they do homework, are showered and ready for dinner. Make sure everything is ready for the next day. Generally dinner is done by 7:45 pm, and nanny is responsible for cleaning up dinner. We have a housekeeper that cooks / prepares dinner but needs to leave at 7:30 pm.
After 8:15 pm
Generally, once a week parents may not be home for dinner, and need to ensure kids eat dinner / get ready for bed. Other nights parents may leave right around dinner time, and nanny is responsible simply for ensuring they go to bed and that there is a responsible adult in case of emergency at the home. While generally the work is finishing just a little after 8:00pm, we expect the person to always be at the house as the “responsible adult” should any emergency arise. Once or twice a month we will host Friday night dinners which may last until 9:00ish pm, and it is expected that the nanny will help with clean‐up during those dinners.
Requirements:
Valid Driver’s license and clean driving record
Authorization to work in the United States. NO EXCEPTIONS
Good attitude, be responsible and thoughtful.
Availability to travel during the summer, and Christmas/ New Years break
Living Arrangements: nanny is expected to start at 6:45 AM on Monday, and be at the house through end of dinner Friday night (generally by 8:30 pm, occasionally by 9:30pm). They will have their own room/bathroom and small kitchen.
Other staff: we have a full time maintenance / driver that works 7‐5 pm . We also have a full time housekeeper / cook that works from 10:30 AM to 7:30 pm daily. It is imperative that the person has a good working relationship with the rest of the household staff, and a culture of respect and helping out with “whatever is needed." We do not like counting hours. The schedule above is simply a sample. Some weeks, more hours are needed (i.e. if a kid is sick and need to work the full day). Other weeks, work may be meaningfully lighter as we may be travelling.
Languages:
Working knowledge of English is required, and Portuguese as a second language is preferred.
Pay :.
We pay per week for this approximate schedule, regardless of hours actually worked. Pay is $60,000 per year ($1150/week). We pay through payroll twice a month, thus the net cash to the employee is less once social security, medicare, and federal taxes are withheld. We offer 2 weeks of paid vacation per year
(non cumulative) plus all major holidays. We review salaries and generally adjust with inflation or slightly above yearly, always on January 1st.
We offer a reimbursement of up to $300/month towards health insurance and provide a car to be used during the week for driving the kids, but can be used by the nanny for the occasional errand.
Extra days (I.E. working a Saturday and/or holidays) are paid at $250/day extra. If travelling with the family out of town, we pay an extra $50/day for regular working days. (i.e. when in Colorado). To the extent there is interest in working Saturdays, there is opportunity to work occasional weekends for extra compensation. (i.e., if interested in working Mondays from 3:00 pm through Saturday evenings, pay would be $1300 / week) .
