The Senior Social Worker under the direction of the Program Director is responsible for ongoing needs assessment, individual
service plans, group and individual counseling, referral, and advocacy for residents of Liberty House, a supportive, transitional
housing program for women and gender expansive people impacted by the criminal legal system. The Senior Social Worker’s
caseload may include both singles and families. The Senior Social Worker will offer specialized services focused on addressing the complex issues of trauma, mental illness, addiction, gender-based violence, family reunification, positive parenting and family interaction.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for assessing the needs of the resident and preparing service plans collaboratively with resident to
ensure individual needs are provided by Liberty House and/or community partners.
- Meet weekly with residents to discuss progress on service plan goals and to provide a supportive environment for the
discussion of life issues, which includes housing, employment, counseling, substance use programs, and education
and parenting skills.
- Conduct intake interviews, collecting any/all documentation required, provide general information, give tour of
house, explain house rules, expectation of behavior, and emergency procedures.
- Provide general case management functions, including assistance in obtaining any identification, documentation, or
entitlements needed for access to external services and permanent housing.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments and link to providers for psychiatric evaluations.
- Facilitate group sessions and develop curriculum for support groups and special supportive projects such as a harm
reduction group.
- Responsible for engagement of resident’s family support system, including introduction of Liberty House to family,
occasional referral support, and invitation to family events and/or workshops.
- Provide ongoing crisis and conflict management to support residents in maintaining physical, emotional, and social
safety.
- Maintain ongoing contact with ATI, public defenders, and other community agencies concerning each resident’s
progress, and participate in regular community meetings with providers as scheduled.
- Responsible for researching, cultivating, and maintaining relationships with community resources and partners that
provide high-quality services to residents. Provide ongoing evaluation of services and partners.
- Maintain appropriate and up-to-date documentation of services for all clients; maintain thorough and accurate
records, files and correspondence in written and electronic form, including but not limited to, treatment plans, case
notes, etc.
- Assist with any and all data collection systems.
- Oversee the Peer Advocate schedule and duties, and provide direct supervision.
- Participate in and co-facilitate case conferencing as part of a team, to support and plan for all residents.
- Participate in individual supervisory sessions and case reviews with the Program Director, and other staff as required.
- Attend program meetings, agency-wide meetings, and staff training.
- Provide administrative back up to Program Director, including on-call responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Program Director
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, LMSW/LCSW preferred.
- 4 years of case work experience, preferably working with women with homeless histories, behavioral health needs,
and/or criminal legal history. Preferable work experience with families and children.
- Meaningful commitment to and understanding of housing first, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.
- High level of self-awareness and ability to give and receive feedback well.
- Excellent judgement and ability to handle crises effectively.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
- Experience facilitating groups highly preferred.
- Experience with conflict resolution and mediation preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Competent technology & management skills, including proficiency with using Microsoft Office; and client database
management systems.
