POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Major Gifts will be working with a highly engaged and passionate team, this position is responsible for developing, managing, and executing individual major donor fundraising programs. This role will manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects; formulate strategies to solicit operating and program restricted gifts and sponsorships and manage stewardship of individual donors. The Director of Major Gifts will also track, and report team metrics as outlined in Moves Management Guidelines, model and monitor excellence in customer service, and create and maintain the Major Gifts budget while providing oversight and support of HFB’s signature special events.

  • Reliable, consistent, on-site attendance is a requirement. This position requires punctuality and dependable attendance to meet the needs of the business, including attending and taking part in meetings and presentations
  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to develop a vision and strategy to manage and execute all Major Donor giving programs
  • Ensure key areas of the strategy are on time and on budget
  • Create monthly and annual revenue targets for each team member and ensure each has a pipeline of prospects to meet those targets
  • Coach and guide team members to develop individualized approaches
  • Work to expand Food Bank’s major donors and increase the level of both program-specific and unrestricted gifts
  • Work closely with program staff to understand projects in need of funding
  • Develop and manage a personal portfolio of large individual major donors and prospects
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts with the other development directors as needed
  • Provide oversight and support of the organization’s signature special events
  • Stay abreast of philanthropic, economic, and social and community trends related to the Food Bank; ensure that the staff is informed of changes in trends and initiatives that might impact the organization

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts, Public Relations, Business or related discipline
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience with major donor fundraising
  • A minimum of 3 years of special event experience
  • Experience working within a large Houston-area nonprofit organization

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, solicit, close and nurture major gifts from corporations and individual major donors at the five- and six-figure level
  • The ability to organize and prioritize fundraising activities effectively across the organization
  • Guide staff members in managing their responsibilities
  • Maturity to navigate complex relationships
  • A proven strategic thinker and manager that promotes teamwork, creativity, and open communication
  • Superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priority projects at once with ease and efficiency
  • Budgeting experience
  • Proficient in Raiser’s Edge, or a similar relationship management solution, Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
