Houston in Action has a physical office located within the Museum District of Houston. Staff currently work remotely with responsibilities that include in-person meetings and events.
About the Position
The Neighborhood Coordinator will work at a community level to build and deepen local infrastructure and support for community organizations in order to increase civic participation and improve the lives of community members. They will serve as an influential champion for Houston in Action and its partners by understanding the Houston community organizing and non-profit landscape and trends. The ideal candidate has strong experience in organizing, building and leveraging collaborations; and proven experience in program development, program administration and team leadership.
Responsibilities
The Neighborhood Coordinator will partner closely with the Director of Coordination to expand and deepen collaborative work and capacity building in up to two neighborhoods of focus. The Neighborhood Coordinator will also coordinate and convene partners and stakeholders in the neighborhoods and deepen collaboration amongst them with the intention of strengthening relationships between partner organizations and community members.
Key functions
- Work with Houston in Action team to expand collaborative work and capacity building in up to two neighborhoods within Harris County.
- Support partner organization in strengthening relationships with community organizations, stakeholders and more importantly community members, and thus building their base of leaders.
- Provide coaching on organizing, data and communications to partner organization and team members.
- Support Director of Coordination and Director of Policy in coordinating partner organizations as well as neighborhoods of focus into other network-wide opportunities and campaigns.
- Creating peer learning opportunities for organizing and community outreach staff and volunteer leaders in the community.
- Coordinate collaborative meetings with partners in the neighborhood
Qualifications
- 10-plus years of organizing and campaign experience in a nonprofit organization, foundation, or government agency
- 5-plus years of capacity building and training
- Ability to collect and analyze data, and make strategic decisions
- Experience in managing projects as well as working with multiple teams and personalities.
- Experience working with media, creating and using strategic messaging and supporting others to do so.
- Track record of working in support of social justice and with BIPOC communities
- Knowledgeable about building systems and developing strong teams
- Highly adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people, industries, and from diverse backgrounds
- Innovative and creative thinker
- Demonstrated personal commitment towards racial and social justice

Compensation & Benefits
- This position is full-time. Salary range is $70,000 - $80,000 and final pay will be commensurate with experience.
