JOB SUMMARY
The Screener Specialist 1 will play a critical role in the initial screening process of candidates, ensuring that we identify the best-fit individuals for various positions within the district. The Screener Specialist 1 is primarily responsible for reviewing resumes, conducting phone assessments, and evaluating candidate qualifications and suitability. This role requires exceptional communication skills, strong judgment and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
List most important duties first 1. Review and evaluate resumes and job applications to assess candidate qualifications, skills, and experience. 2. Conduct phone screenings with candidates to assess their interest, availability, and general fit for the position. 3. Utilize established screening criteria and guidelines to evaluate candidates' suitability for further consideration. 4. Maintain accurate and up-to-date candidate records in the applicant tracking system. 5. Collaborate with the recruiting team to identify key requirements and desired qualifications for each position. 6. Communicate with candidates promptly and professionally, providing feedback and updates on their application status. 7. Schedule interviews and coordinate with candidates and hiring managers to ensure a smooth interview process.

8. Collaborate with hiring managers to develop a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities for each position. 9. Provide recommendations to the recruiting team on qualified candidates who should proceed to the next stage of the hiring process. 10. Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and changes in recruitment processes. 11. Review and evaluate resumes and job applications to assess candidate qualifications, skills, and experience. 12. Conduct phone screenings with candidates to assess their interest, availability, and general fit for the position. 13. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent work experience).
WORK EXPERIENCE
1-3 years' experience in a related role or field
Proven experience in recruiting, talent acquisition, or a similar role.
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively screen candidates over the phone.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to analyze resumes and job applications.
Proficiency in using applicant tracking systems or other recruitment software.
Demonstrated ability to handle a high volume of candidates and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with candidates and work effectively in a team environment.
Knowledge of current recruiting trends, sourcing techniques, and best practices.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Familiarity with employment laws and regulations.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice, and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
No budget development activity is required.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
Follows rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Follows through with customer inquiries, requests and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
