The Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations for the Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group (HMSPG), and the Houston Methodist Primary Care Group (HMPCG) will be instrumental in establishing a sustainable centralized billing office to drive optimal revenue cycle performance and support the growth objectives for physician practices. This position includes revenue cycle oversight of approximately 500 multispecialty physicians and advanced practitioners, including residents, fellows and medical students..
The Vice President of Revenue Cycle Operations will be engaged in revenue cycle analysis, planning, budgeting and reporting to assist senior leaders across the medical group and health system enterprise in evaluating financial productivity and avenues for enhancement, including business development and revenue enhancement initiatives.
Requirements:
- Works with HMSPG/HMPCG executive leadership to set revenue cycle standards and establish a centralized billing office utilizing the EPIC system for a multi-entity integrated physician practice organization.
- Leads and participates in the development of the EPIC system across Houston Methodist Hospital.
- Establishes a centralized revenue cycle department that will generate accurate revenue cycle reporting for the medical group to maximize operations.
- Leads the implementation of best practice revenue cycle standards to be followed by all HMSPG/HMPCG physician practices.
- Leads a team of professionals to ensure the management of patient accounts are accurate and timely resulting in the optimization of the entire revenue cycle
- Builds, plans, organizes, and provides administrative direction and oversight for all revenue cycle functions.
- Provides technical expertise to proactively drive and implement best practices across the revenue cycle.
- Leads the restructuring of the current practice based revenue cycle system in the organization toward a centralized and standardized revenue cycle model utilizing proven best practices for revenue management.
- Provides executive leadership and guidance to revenue cycle staff including the establishment of an organization structure to facilitate growth .
- Ensures timely and accurate completion of:
- monthly, quarterly and annual physician revenue cycle reports;
- contractual and bad debt reserve analysis;
- AR management
- monthly reporting on entity, departmental and provider KPIs
- Participates in Executive leadership meetings and EPIC build sessions related to revenue cycle
- Provides revenue cycle support and setup for practice acquisitions and new provider hires.
- Participates in the development of revenue cycle projections for new physicain recruits by estimating future outcomes using historical data, market and economic indicators.
- Assist in the preparation of ad hoc revenue cycle reporting for executive team to analyze current strategic direction and evaluate new business opportunities.
- Oversees revenue cycle benchmarking by comparing business processes and performance metrics to best practices in the market, and implements improvements to gain efficiency, lower cost, and higher quality.
- Leads the development of a comprehensive reporting and analytics infrastrucutre to produce timely management level dashboards to monitor the performance of the Houston Methodist Physician Organziation centeralized business office.
- Assists with development and communication of annual revenue cycle manpower plan and budgets.
- Leads various meetings with physicians, practice operations, revenue cycle management and executive leadership. Responsible for working with practice leadership to identify opportunities for improving cash flows.
- Works with and coordinates with third party revenue cycle vendors to ensure KPIs are met to maximize revenue cycle performance.
- Educates practice management on best practices related revenue cycle by , reviewing/understanding practice KPI’s and various operational revenue cycle activities
- Adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of HMSPG/HMPCG
- Adheres to HMSPG/HMPCG HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.
- Demonstrates support for the HMSPG/HMPCG Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policies that affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Masters degree in Finance or Accounting is required
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Five years of Executive level management experience in finance/accounting or revenue cycle related field within a large medical group, preferably in a complex academic physician group. Experience with EPIC is highly desired.
Certified Professional Accountant highly desired
- Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities. Leadership experience should include management of staff, budgets and revenue cycle functions at the director or executive level.
- Comprehensive knowledge of effective best practice in medical group practice revenue cycle operations, regulations, and guidelines.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Ability to effectively and professionally communicate, both in writing and verbally, with physicians, management, vendors, consultants and other clients.
- Strong ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical problem solving aptitude with creative solutions.
- Ability to organize work with large amounts of information efficiently, manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously with attention to detail in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.
- Must be computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and other accounting software packages. Experience with Microsoft Access is preferred.
