What are the responsibilities and job description for the Export Compliance Officer position at HP Inc.?

HP's Trade Compliance team is part of the Litigation, Ethics and Compliance function in HP's Legal Department. The Trade Compliance team develops policies, procedures, trainings, audits, and advises HP business units and functions on import and export requirements for HP's products, technologies, and services around the world.

The Export Compliance Officer reports to the Director, Trade Compliance and manages a team of trade compliance professionals responsible for export and sanctions compliance matters in the U.S. and provides support to regional teams worldwide. The Export Compliance Officer applies advanced subject matter expertise to manage staff activities in solving complex export and sanctions compliance issues impacting HP's shipments of goods and delivery of services.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, and execute HP's export and sanctions compliance policies, practices, and controls.

  • Support Trade Compliance regional teams in execution of country/region-specific export and sanctions policies and controls.

  • Manage all facets of HP's exports and sanctions compliance program, including restricted party screening, export licensing, export control classification, technology transfers, anti-boycott compliance, incident management, and risk assessments.

  • Develop and foster relationships with functional areas (i.e., sales, supply chain, procurement, finance/controllership, logistics, engineering, R&D, etc.) involved in export activities.

  • Evaluate and recommend strategies for cost avoidance/reduction, ensuring implementation of effective internal controls to mitigate and manage export/sanctions risks.

  • Collaborate and support Government Affairs staff on advocacy and mitigating impact of export/sanctions laws and measures with potentially adverse impacts on HP's interests.

  • Represent HP in export-related business and professional associations, industry advisory groups, and other organizations, as appropriate.

  • Hire, set, and monitor annual performance plans, coaching, and talent development of staff.

  • Contribute to the development of the Trade Compliance organization's strategies, annual goals/priorities, and other strategic initiatives.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Advanced understanding of U.S. export and sanctions laws and regulations. Specific knowledge areas include EAR, ITAR, OFAC compliance.

  • Strong analytical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong leadership skills, including coaching, team building, and conflict resolution, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role/position.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills.

  • Advanced business acumen and relationship management skills.

  • Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize, and delegate.

Education and Experience:

  • First level university or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred.

  • 5 years in export and sanctions compliance.
