Injection Mold Processing Supervisor

HR Fusion is searching for the ideal person for an exciting opportunity in our Greencastle plant. This is a direct hire full time position.

Role Overview:

The Injection Molding processing supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Molding technicians. This includes maintaining the Molding department mold setup schedule, overseeing the set-up, cycling and operating of all molding machines, safety, supervising the department and ensuring all training and reviews of employees are conducted on time. This position works with Engineering to determine and correct part flaws as well as understand the principles of scientific molding. In addition, the Processing supervisor works with the technicians on developing them. The processing supervisor makes sure all molds are running to validated processes, makes sure all water is on molds, we are running to standard cycle times and that we are setting molds to standard setup times.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, schedule and manage all aspects of the Molding setup.
  • Ensure that all personnel understand and comply with our Health and Safety policies and Legislated Occupational Health and Safety Standards.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts for processing, tooling, and automation to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (Availability, Performance, Quality)
  • Participate in new program launches to validate target cycle times, review mold design/construction, and complete the first production trial.
  • Follow all procedures. Identify weaknesses and improve them as necessary.
  • Develop and implement systems for keeping molds, tools, and all accessories clean and organized.
  • Identify and implement adjustments to processing parameters to correct quality issues and appropriately document.
  • Accurately report machine, and tooling issues, identify problem areas and work to resolve them.
  • Answer machine alarms and radio calls in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work with Process Technicians and Engineering to develop processing cycles for all molding machines.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and develop and implement improvement efforts.
  • Apply Scientific Injection Molding principles and Decoupled Molding theory to troubleshoot molding processes.
  • Utilize tools to enter mold changes, downtime and scrap. Identify gaps in performance vs. expectations and work to resolve them.
  • Provide technical support and problem-solving assistance to molding technicians.
  • Develop new processes, assess and document new and existing processes.
  • Implement and evaluate changes to existing processes designed to improve product quality, productivity and overall equipment efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to process technicians, operators and other molding personnel.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation ensuring that processes and procedures are clearly stated and understandable for all employees.
  • Provide technical support/solutions to manufacturing processes, improve yield and throughput, drive cost reduction activities and improve part quality.
  • Must be able to work independently on new process development as well as troubleshooting current production issues.
  • Monitor and report issues with injection molds.
  • Identify/perform proactive maintenance tasks.
  • Troubleshoot any molding issues using Root Cause Analysis (or similar) to determine and correct the issues going forward.
  • Improve department efficiency by working with Engineering to develop and implement molding automation, including 6 axis robots, sprue pickers and conveyors.
  • Develop a network of Team Leaders that work directly with technicians to ensure all machines stay running.
  • Conduct a daily technician meeting with both shifts and assign work based on the priorities outlined in the meeting.
  • Assist in the technical development of injection molding employees.
  • Prepare and conduct all yearly Molding technician employee reviews.
  • Keep the department clean and ensure that all technicians keep their area clean and ready at all times for inspection.
  • Inspect all auxiliary equipment before any startup.
  • Create and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing employment, audits, and sustaining improvements.
  • Sample new tools, establish, document and development tool specific Scientific Injection Process for new and existing tooling.
  • Establish optimum and repeatable processing conditions to maximize quality and profitability. Work on Set Up time reduction and standardization ideas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience/Education Requirements Needed

  • Must have at least 5-10 years of practical work experience in an Injection Molding Operation
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing supervisor role is required.
  • Must be highly organized and be comfortable with a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and analytical skills are required.
  • Self-starters must be able to work with little direction and with a high level of self-motivation.
  • Ability to manage multiple start-up projects.
  • Demonstrated superior communication (written and verbal), teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal skills along with the ability to handle multiple priorities at any time.
  • Demonstrated ability to think out of the box and recommend options.
  • Ability to lead others, responsibility may include indirect supervision of process technicians.
  • Established computer skills (Visual Manufacturing, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to perform at the same level or higher than a Master Molder II (RJG equivalent certification).
  • Participate in and develop basic and advanced training for the technical area and personnel.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Weld, operate various welding equipment, TIG, MIG, ARC, Laser
  • Safety and Team mind set.
  • Must complete a Routsis training course like all technicians.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent. Pass Mechanical Reasoning Test.
  • Strong and diverse technical background in injection molding processing, tooling, equipment, materials, manufacturing and quality.
  • Overheard crane experience, minimum 2 years of experience preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
