Estimator (Aerospace Job Shop)

A successful Aerospace based Tube Bending and Fabrication Job Shop seeks a full time experienced Estimator.

The Estimator will be responsible for determining the cost and the sell price on parts/assemblies for a "build to print" job shop. They will work closely with a multiple departments to evaluate/estimate fabrication costs, labor hours, materials, and O.P. relative to the customer drawings and specifications.

Ensures that quote submitted will meet all contractual obligations which can include customer specific quality requirements and/or other terms and conditions noted. Based on the costing information gathered, the Estimator will build and submit quotes and proposals to our customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must be able to formulate a ‘sell price’ (estimate) from blueprint drawings which would include breaking down fabrications in a bill of material and calculating man hours to fabricate & machine parts.
  • Complete estimates of labor and material costs to support a request for quote.
  • Ability to understand the part, project and/or program to its requirements.
  • Communicate with vendors to obtain bids for material and outside processes.
  • Gather first-hand information from history, the shop floor, purchasing and engineering.
  • Evaluate and investigate re-run jobs for time, material and processing anomalies.
  • Compile the data into an estimating worksheet and/or by using comparative analysis determine the sell price for the component or assembly.

· Complete the quote sheet and forward the data to Engineering Mgr. for review/approval.

· Perform risk analysis and interface with Production, Supply Chain and Quality Teams to ensure all factors are considered with regards to manufacturing and capacity planning, so the customer is quoted accurately.

· Build relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, engineers etc.)

  • Ability to prepare cost estimates in a timely manner, sometimes expedite when needed in this fast-paced working environment.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years’ experience in estimating fabricating & machining (Aerospace environment).
  • Ability to read and interpret aerospace engineering models and drawings
  • Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes highly preferred
  • Military and Commercial Aerospace Manufacturing and Fabrication knowledge.
  • Computer literate with emphasis on spreadsheets.
  • Attention to details.
  • Thoroughness and reliability.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Time Management skills to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines.
  • Able to meet multiple and/or conflicting deadlines

· Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills to drive tasks to completion.

· Proficient in relevant software, working within ERP Systems, must be highly proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook.

· Integrity – this position requires appropriate handling of confidential, sensitive information, per AS9100/ISO 9001 requirements, as well as ITAR Controlled compliance requirements.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years of experience in Estimating and Manufacturing Engineering or relevant field is preferred.
  • 5 years experience in aerospace industry - preferred.
  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a US Person as defined by 22 C.F.R 120.15 is required. US Person includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41,751.92 - $110,319.21 per year
