What are the responsibilities and job description for the Asst. Director of Nursing position at HRA?

Essential Functions:
 Supervises direct nursing care in the Health Center
 Administers direct nursing care when more than routine care is
indicated.
 Makes routine rounds to assure proper care and a safe, clean
resident environment.
 Assures accuracy and completeness of medical records.
 Coordinates, conducts, and documents the MDS, resident care
plans and conference in the absence of the MDS nurse.
 Supervises nursing personnel on all shifts. Participates in staffing,
scheduling, counseling, orientation, and evaluation of nursing staff.
 Assists with orientation of nursing personnel.
 Participates in family/resident counseling.
 Responses to emergency calls as necessary.
 Functions in the capacity of Dir. of Nursing (DON) in his/her
absence.
 Assures effective communication with other shifts and departments
as it relates to resident care.
 Some “on call” is required.
 Assures timelines of physician visits.
 Accompanies physicians when making rounds.
 Notifies physician and family of changes in resident’s condition.
 Encourages rehabilitative techniques in order to restore resident’
independence.
 Assures proper functioning of medical equipment and adequate
medical supplies.
 Assists DON in developing and implementing policies and
procedures.
 Assists in infection control, safety and pharmacy rounds and
audits.
 Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.

 Performs specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by
supervisor.
 Participates in ongoing staff development activities which fulfill
mandatory requirements
 Participates in community functions including family socials and
open houses
 Attends required community meetings and completes required
reports in a neat and timely manner
Non-Essential Functions:
 Leads by example exhibiting the CORE Values through servant

 Attends required community meetings and participates Life
Enrichment activities when able
 Completes all required courses in adherence with HRA University
 Is prompt and able to perform the required duties of the position on
a regular, predictable basis
 Becomes familiar and understands how to report a missing person
using the Safe Return program or equivalent
 Becomes familiar and understands the steps for fire evacuation
 All associates are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure
environment for all community residents
Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements:
 Current nursing (RN) licensure issued by appropriate state
 Current CPR certification
 Bachelor’s Degree in health care related field
 Current s ECC and/or CORE Training certification as required
 Geriatric/rehabilitation experience with a good understanding of
restorative nursing.
 Able to effectively supervise a diverse employee work group
 Strong leadership skills
 One to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent
combination of education, experience and staff management
 Experience using Microsoft Office and Outlook software. Basic
typing skills required
 Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management,
associates, residents, family members, and outside contacts
 Knowledge of current Federal and State laws pertaining to assisted
living and/or memory care communities
 Able to make independent decisions
 Must possess a passion to work with and around senior citizens
