Job Title: Chief Engineer (Working Engineer)
Supervision Received: General Manager and VP of Engineering
Availability: Evening Shifts, Weekends

Summary
Under the direction of the General Manager and VP of Engineering, the Chief Engineer is responsible for the preventative maintenance of the entire resort properties, interior and exterior, including the pool, beach, docking, and all water sports areas. This individual will be responsible for the development, execution, and follow-through of the property work order system.
The Chief Engineer manages and oversees the engineering and groundskeeping crews. Also manages third-party vendors for facility maintenance, landscaping, and daily pool maintenance.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensure all required repairs and maintenance are performed on all resort equipment and assets as scheduled or requested by guests, housekeeping, and /or management. Such duties could consist of HVAC, plumbing, electrical repair, and furniture replacement and/or repair, etc.
- Develop an effective and measurable preventative maintenance program.
- Perform preventive maintenance on resort equipment and assets per set schedule.
- Record all meter readings and boiler temperature.
- Focus attention on details by doing daily walk-throughs of the guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-the-house areas to ensure a safe and well-kept work environment.
- Develop and maintain effective work orders and other paperwork systems.
- Provide written details of work performed on Work Order forms and other documents.
- Record all maintenance request work performed in the log program and return requests to the proper location.
- Hire, train, supervise, coach, and counsel engineering and groundskeeping crews.
- Develop effective training programs.
- Motivate staff on a daily basis to maintain a cohesive team.
- Ensure that staff are properly uniformed and are following all resort and company procedures.
- Ensure that all operations of Engineering equipment and procedures are understood and performed safely in accordance with company guidelines and government regulations
- Assume responsibility for the implementation of policies and procedures set by the resort and company.
- Assemble weekly and Period Summary Maintenance Reports and identify and track trends to anticipate future work projects and costs.
- Provide feedback to management and owners on specific maintenance and repair needs.
- Administer Safety Training programs; and facilitate all Emergency Response Training and Safety Training for all resort employees.
- Educate all staff on health and safety procedures and policies.
- Watch for safety hazards.
- Know the resort’s emergency procedures and where all emergency shut-offs are located.
- Assist resort guests, when necessary, in case of an emergency.
- Follow, and enforce all O.S.H.A. and safety guidelines.
- Remain professional and courteous with demanding or difficult guests or situations, in order to turn them to the positive.
- Perform job functions to standards under pressure, i.e., failure of equipment affecting guest safety and/or comfort and the ability to quickly re-establish said equipment to normal operations.
- Maintains excellent communication with all departments concerning their needs.
- Maintains an overall knowledge of groundskeeping and facility maintenance.
- Budget, plan, schedule, coordinate, and supervise Capital Expenditure projects.
- Use utilities and resources in a responsible manner to control wastage.
- Perform special projects assigned a time set for each project.
- Support environmental commitments by having the knowledge, skills, and values to be a leader in the global goal of “greening” the hospitality industry.

Minimum Requirements
- At least 3 years of related experience, with at least 2 of those years in a lead/supervisory position in the maintenance field
- H igh School Graduate or Equivalent
- HVAC Certification & CPO certification
- Solid understanding of O.S.H.A.and building engineering
- First Aid/CPR
- Has thorough knowledge and understanding of general repairs and maintenance.
- Proven track record working with information technology systems.
- Experience with fire and life safety systems.
- Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration.
- Experience maintaining grounds and beach areas.
- Experience maintaining pool water quality and applicable maintenance.
- Ability to communicate in English with guests, visitors, vendors, and resort staff.
- Ability to provide legible communication.
- Ability to compute mathematical calculations.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills written and verbal. Will be interfacing with guests to provide efficient and effective results as related repairs and maintenance.
- Maintains a close working relationship with employees and department heads from all areas of resort operations.
- The position is on call 24 hours a day. One must be flexible to work long hours to ensure the smooth operation of the engineering department.
- This position requires the ability to handle pressure situations and make sound judgment calls when evaluating problems and situations to expedite the resolution. Additionally, it is necessary to take a proactive role and manage by example.
