Job Description: Mechanical Engineer
Position Summary:
IMPCO is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to be an integral part of our journey to design cutting-edge machine tools for the future. In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and analysis of machine builds, mechanical components, and assemblies from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design Leadership:
Lead the mechanical design of machines and machine tooling to meet IMPCO and customer design specifications. Focus on simplifying designs, enhancing reliability, and ensuring safety.
Standard Component Utilization:
Use, maintain, and enhance standard components to meet all applicable specifications in machine and machine tooling designs.
Efficiency and Cost-Effectiveness:
Develop new designs and improved standards to conserve space, minimize manufacturing costs, and reduce engineering time.
Collaboration and Documentation:
Evaluate design capabilities, provide accurate information, and support documentation to ensure designs meet deadlines and customer requirements.
Coordinate meetings with Controls Project Engineers and Coordinators before machine build.
Project Procurement and Estimation:
Obtain competitive quotations and issue requisitions. Consider long lead time items to maintain project schedules.
Estimate Engineering hours and ensure they align with machine budgets.
Shop Interaction:
Collaborate effectively with shop personnel during the machine build, startup, debugging, and run-off processes.
Customer Support:
Provide all necessary documentation to customers during machine shipment and acceptance.
Offer support to Service Technicians and Training personnel during machine startup at the customer's facility.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Assist the Sales & Parts Department as required.
Attend meetings regarding job content, scheduling, and job progress as requested by stakeholders.
Notify the Mechanical Engineering Manager of any non-required changes to the machine order, customer specifications, or safety concerns.
Innovation:
Stay current with industry technology and trends, advising the Engineering Manager on potential enhancements for IMPCO machine designs.
Candidate Selection Criteria:
B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
3 – 5 years of experience in machine tools or a related industry.
Experience with engines or powertrains is a plus.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3-D Solid Works. Familiarity with Business Central/Microsoft 365.
Strong analytical skills: ability to compile, analyze, and draw logical conclusions from data.
Self-motivated, self-directed, and highly organized.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Willingness to work both on-site and at customer facilities, including domestic and international travel.
Additional Requirements:
Salary Range: $85,000 - $97,000.
AutoCAD and SolidWorks experience are essential.
Experience with Bills of Materials is necessary.
Involvement in customer meetings and presentation skills.
Project management or leadership experience is a plus.
Strong time management skills.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with fluid systems, including hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems.
