Setup the wire straightener, wire bender and use the welder to produce border wires for the innerspring department.

In 1944, Hickory Springs Manufacturing (HSM) started a small production of furniture springs in Hickory, NC. We are a leading supplier of diversified components for the bedding, furniture, and GSA industries.
We also produce polyester fiber batting, formed steel wire, flexible polyurethane foam fabrication. Hickory Springs, continues to extend its original product lines to include sleeper mechanisms, adjustable bed bases, roll packed mattresses and fabric encased micro coils.

- Setup the wire straightener by using a tape measure and assorted hand tools to ensure the correct length of wire is being cut.
- Adjust the wire bender to correctly put the bends in the wires using assorted hand tools.
- Adjust the welder to be sure the dies are in the correct position in regards to the gauge of the wire being used.
- Using forklift position rolls of wire on wire payoff device. Feed wire through dies on the wire straightener. Start machine using buttons on the control panel.
- As wires fall into holding tray, take ten (10) wires at a time and place then in the bender. After positioning them where needed, using foot pedal to activate the air cylinders.
The first two bends will be put into the wires.
- Reposition wires and again use foot pedal to activate the air cylinders and the remaining two bends are put into the wires.
- Place wires into holding rack. Taking the ends of one wire at a time place them in the dies of the welder. To activate the welder step on the foot pedal.
Repeat this process until all ten wires are welded.
- Take the wires out of the welder and place onto holding rack. Depending on the gauge wire that is being produced either fifty (50) or seventy-five (75) wires are tied together with annealed wire.
- When the rack is full it is moved to the storage area for the particular size that you are producing and off loaded by hand to the floor.
- Safety chains MUST be used in the storage area. Bundles can weigh up to 150 lbs. depending on the size of wire being produced.
- In order to stay classified in this position you must produce at least 160% of the incentive base rate.
- Frequent lifting of up to 80 lbs.
