HTI is recruiting for an experienced Packaging/Bundler Operator for an international steel manufacturing company at their new facility near Greenville, South Carolina (in Laurens, SC). The company is expanding in the area, and the new steel mill is currently in the start-up phase. This is a full-time, direct hire position. Relocation allowance is available for non-local candidates. Pay range is $20-$26 per hour(depending on experience)
Job Summary
The Packaging/Bundler Operator will play a crucial role in our production process, ensuring the efficient operation of saw equipment and contributing to uptime, product quality, and overall mill performance.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- 2 years of experience in a steel mill/manufacturing facility; experience in tube mill manufacturing preferred.
- Leadership experience and ability to train others is preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions, utilize basic computer skills, and perform basic math.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Visual acuity for reading and recording numerical data.
- Proven experience, with the ability to act proactively in achieving performance goals.
- Strong technical knowledge of tube mill processes, equipment, and materials.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Solid understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
Job Duties:
- Takes direction from and reviews the Mill schedule with Mill Operator.
- Receive verbal and/or written instructions from team leaders/mill managers.
- Sets up automated packaging to match mill schedule (bundle configuration and count).
- Manages partial bundles at end-of-order.
- Operate overhead and Dual Trolley cranes to support tube mill operations as needed.
- Tags bundles as they accumulate on the discharge conveyor (before removal).
- Turns in tags to Mill Operator at the end of the shift.
- Keeps auto-bander fed with banding.
- Alerts Mill Operator of any difficulties with machinery.
- Work safely following Haz Com & workplace safety practices as outlined by company policy & OSHA.
- Work from rolling schedules to ensure proper processing of material per specifications.
- Perform quality checks on all metrics to ensure product compliance with specifications.
- Assist in mill changeovers as needed.
- Complete all required operating reports and quality reports.
- Support other operators during breakdowns, bottlenecks, and scheduled downtime.
- Report any irregularities or malfunctions to managers or maintenance.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and equipment.
- Works closely with both Mill Crane Operator, Cut-Off Operator, End Welder, and the Multi-craft Technician to monitor the entirety of the production process.
- Cross-train to a full working understanding and knowledge of all positions as to be able to contribute as needed.
- Follow verbal and/or written instructions and comply with safety protocols and PPE requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
