Civil Designer/CAD Technician

Job Summary: Huitt-Zollars has a great full-time opportunity for a Civil Designer/Technician – Civil Engineering at our Fort Worth, Texas office. The candidate will utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to design land development, transportation, and public works projects. The candidate must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team, and possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Education:  HS diploma, associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in CAD drafting, civil technology, engineering technology, or similar area of study, and/or comparable experience working for a civil engineering or comparable firm. 

 Duties/Responsibilities:

• Construction plan production (cover sheets, sheet indexes, general notes, plan and profiles, typical sections, details, etc.)
• Prepare for and attend design meetings with engineers and project managers
• Design tasks as able to perform and/or willing to learn
• Prepare graphic materials for presentations and documents as necessary
• Effectively communicate design and plan production issues throughout the construction plan process
• Learn and adhere to company CAD, file, and data management standards  
• Collaboration with team members and supervisor on methods to increase production efficiency
• Construction quantity take offs
• Assist with construction support activities such as site visits, change orders, shop drawing review, responding to RFIs, construction detail modifications, punch list preparation, etc.
• Mentor and train junior team members
• Regularly work on multiple projects
• Prepare due diligence reports for prospective projects 

Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in CAD drafting, civil technology, engineering technology, or similar area of study, and/or comparable experience working for a civil engineering or comparable firm.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience utilizing AutCAD Civil 3D to prepare construction drawings
• Ability to efficiently and effectively create, organize, and maintain Civil 3D base files and sheet sets on projects assigned 
• Ability to develop profiles, corridors, and surfaces utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D on projects assigned
• Knowledge and/or understanding of plan production (cover sheets, sheet indexes, general notes, plan and profiles, typical sections, details, etc.)
• Effective communication skills and ability to work with other team members to complete a project.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook
• Experience in BlueBeam and Newforma is a plus
• Experience with basic civil engineering calculations, unit conversions, etc. is a plus
• Experience with MicroStation Open Roads is a plus
• Experience with excavation calculations utilizing Civil3D is a plus
• Experience with SiteOps is a plus

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
• The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
