Human-I-T is seeking a Digital Navigator, a unique retail position located at our digital equity center, Human-I-T on 7 Mile, actively working to deliver an exceptional customer experience while reducing the digital divide. This role is at the frontline of providing consultative advice, guidance, and support to customers, ensuring they gain access to the digital tools and resources that are necessary for modern living. The Digital Navigator is not just a retail position but a community service role dedicated to creating impactful digital equity. Based in our location on Livernois Avenue in Detroit, which serves as the country’s first digital equity center and a national model for digital inclusion, this role is at the heart of our mission.
As a Digital Navigator, you will be instrumental in driving the success of the nation’s first digital equity center, ensuring that every interaction not only meets technical needs but also empowers customers with the knowledge and resources to thrive in a digital world.
Key Responsibilities:
- Community-Serving Retail:
- Warmly welcome and engage with customers at our 7 Mile location, understanding their digital needs and challenges, with a focus on empathetic and impactful interactions.
- Provide comprehensive support, ensuring customers are educated on how to use digital tools to enhance their everyday lives.
- Sales and Consultative Support:
- Actively assist customers in selecting consumer electronics, primarily focusing on laptops and tablets that meet their needs and goals.
- Use consultative sales techniques to educate customers about different technology options, helping them make informed decisions that enhance their digital access.
- Operations and Logistics:
- Manage daily operational tasks such as maintaining a clean and organized service environment, restocking essential materials, and preparing for daily interactions.
- Process transactions accurately, ensuring all customer interactions are documented and analyzed for ongoing improvement.
- Digital Inclusion Advocacy and Education:
- Serve as a community advocate for digital inclusion, educating customers on the importance of digital access and literacy.
- Facilitate access to solutions to expand digital access, including affordable computing devices, internet service options, and digital literacy training.
- Strategic Community Outreach:
- Engage in proactive community outreach to promote digital literacy and inclusion, establishing Human-I-T’s 7 Mile location as a key player in bridging the digital divide.
- Collaborate in community marketing initiatives and events to attract new members to the space and to activate the store through events, programs, workshops, and other engaging activities.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School diploma or G.E.D. required
Experience:
- Previous experience in retail, especially in consumer electronics, customer service, or in a community service role with a focus on technology or educational services.
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate to and assist a diverse range of individuals.
- Strong understanding of digital tools and resources, with the capability to educate others in their use.
- Passionate about social impact, with a commitment to fostering digital equity and inclusion within the community.
