Work Based Learning/Career Transitions Readiness Specialist

Position Title: Work-Based Learning/Career Transitions Readiness (WBL/CTR) Specialist

Location: Fred G. Acosta Job Corps Center, Tucson, AZ

Reports To: Career Development Department Supervisor

The Work-based Learning/Career Transition Readiness position provides support for a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps program is a federally-funded residential training program. The mission of Job Corps is to provide career-ready technical and academic training and job placement assistance to program eligible youth ages 16-24.

Summary of Duties:

Develops and maintains a sufficient number of worksites to ensure that each student receives at least the required number of work-Based Learning (WBL) hours as well as each student reaches their WBL hours’ goals.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

• Develops and maintains a viable Work-based Learning (WBL) program.
• Establishes center-specific criteria and procedures for student’ participation in WBL. Develops at least two new companies per month.
• Maintains linkages with local and state agencies, federal programs, private industry, and
  educational training institutions.
• Develops Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs). Ensures that student meet their WBL
  requirements as mandated by the DOL, Corporate Office, and Center.
• Ensures that at least 25% of student WBL come from paid sites.
• Provides WBL classes and workshops to include: What is WBL?, WBL Preparedness, and
  Employability and Expectations.
• Provides student with an employability assessment evaluation.
• Adequately prepares for instruction. Integrates math, reading, and writing concepts with employability and Career Success Standards skills with lesson planning.
• Has an accurate syllabus for the course and completes lesson plans as required. Identifies appropriate materials.
• Seeks input from industry advisors, designs instruction to meet individual student needs.
• Ensure curriculum developed is sufficient for student to attain and maintain employment.
• Schedules field trips, guest speakers, workshops and other special projects to augment training.
• Provides student with assessment and assistance with placement readiness: Assists graduates with resume preparation.
• Coaches graduates on interviewing skills. Coaches graduates on placement search strategies

Education/Experience:

• Bachelors Degree Preferred

Certifications/Licenses:

• Valid state driver’s license
• CPR/First Aid certifications
