Responsibilities:
Lead, coach, care for, and grow teams of business-focused data engineers
Thoughtfully organize and unblock collaboration and partnership at multiple levels, across business groups and functions to achieve Humana Military mission and government contractual objectives
Provide thought leadership and acts as a subject matter expert in the designing and recommending of appropriate data warehousing approaches and methodology
Play a mentorship role to key data warehousing personnel, ensuring constant improvement in their professional skills, promoting certifications, guiding in the execution of their duties upon request, and readying them for future career paths
Play a key role in the development of data strategies for various groups (business leaders, data scientists, data analysts, and IT)
Work closely with business, analytics and data science teams to define how data will be stored, consumed, integrated, and managed by different data entities
Ensure data engineering assets are leveraged by the analytics & data science departments to turn into data-driven insights and actionable analytics
Direct strategic planning, including budgeting, business requirements, project planning, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources within Data Engineering group
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
15 or more years of progressive IT experience, specializing in data and information management development, with a focus on converting operational data into actionable, insightful information
8 or more years of experience managing, mentoring and providing strategic advice to development teams
5 or more years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Scripts, Views, and Stored procedures etc.
3 or more years of experience building cloud native solutions in Azure, AWS or GCP
3 or more years of experience managing Agile teams and managing projects using Agile methodology
Technical expertise in data architecture, schema design, and building a modern data lake and data warehouse for the business teams
Deep Expertise in core data engineering processes including ETL tools, Data Cataloging, Governance using custom and off-the-shelf products, DevOps and QA methodologies
Experience in developing, maintaining, and collecting structured and unstructured data sets for analysis and reporting
Experience in creating reports, projections, models, and presentations to support business strategy and tactics
Successful demonstrated experience in working with senior executives to develop and drive segment or enterprise-wide functional strategies
General understanding of hardware/software platforms including but not limited to operating systems, databases, application servers, web servers and integration technologies
Knowledge of software development, life cycle, modeling of business processes, application design patterns, business/functional documents
Strong communication skills and executive presence
Strong work ethic, detail orientation and passion for excellence
Works effectively within a highly matrixed structure
History of initiating and managing change effectively
Ability to travel (up to 10%) and work across all time zones
Our Department of Defense contract requires U.S. citizenship for this position
Successfully receive interim approval for government security clearance (eQIP – electronic questionnaire for investigation processing)
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree
2 years of experience in Azure Synapse, Databricks Lakehouse
Additional experience with some of the following: Snowflake; PostgreSQL; MongoDB; MySQL
CSP certification (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Experience or knowledge of the health insurance industry
