Description
The Grant Administrator 2 coordinates the organization's grant administration activities. The Grant Administrator 2 work assignments are varied and frequently require interpretation and independent determination of the appropriate courses of action. The role manages the grant administration process for the Foundation and requires highly professional, customer service skills and frequent interaction (verbal and written) with associates internal to Humana Inc and external partners, applicants and grantees. The role also provides support to the Director of Strategy and Foundation team where appropriate.Responsibilities
The Grant Administrator 2 acts as a liaison with charitable organizations. Provides information to charitable organizations concerning various types of grants available and their associated reporting and administration. Understands department, segment, and organizational strategy and operating objectives, including their linkages to related areas. The Grant Administrator 2 requires a commitment to producing high quality, timely deliverables within and across teams while possessing sound judgement and high attention to detail. Will need to have the ability to work independently and collaboratively while completing multiple tasks with competing deadlines and priorities. Serves as grant management process expert by using monitoring and reporting methods appropriate for identifying health of program activities. Makes decisions regarding own work methods, occasionally in ambiguous situations, and requires minimal direction and receives guidance where needed. Follows established guidelines/procedures.
- The Grant Administrator 2 is responsible for executing tactical activities in support of Humana Foundation's strategy to create healthy emotional connections and shape a healthier approach to nutrition while identifying and implementing appropriate and effective practices for engaging key stakeholders around the Humana Foundation grant making strategy.
- The Grant Administrator 2 will serve as a data-driven steward of the grant management process and project manager for existing grant partners by providing reporting and technical support.
- The Grant Administrator 2 will operate as a partner for organizations wishing to begin the Foundation’s grant applications process by providing general application guidance. In community and within Humana, Inc. the Grant Administrator 2 will serve as ambassador for the Foundation strategy through collaboration with business market and philanthropy liaison and proactive participation in local philanthropy collaboratives and collectives.
This role requires critical thinking, a commitment to effectively communicating across Foundation teams, Humana, Inc. and community stakeholders, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a desire to advance the Foundation’s strategic vision. The Grant Administrator 2 will need to have the ability to work collaboratively while completing multiple tasks with competing deadlines and priorities.
Location: This a remote nationwide position some travel required (at least 2 times per year)
Role Essentials
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- 3-5 years’ experience in the project management, grant management and/or community engagement/partnership development
- Exceptional technology skills, including familiarity of or willingness to learn, operate online grants management, and event systems
- Demonstrated persuasive and respectful presentation skills for communications with internal leadership, external stakeholders, and communities
- Ability to communicate the Foundation’s strategy confidently, thoughtfully, and succinctly to community, associates, funders, etc. through preparedness, consistent presentation and advancing conversations forward.
- Awareness of concepts related to health equity, systems change, and root causes
- Proven ability to work effectively across diverse disciplines
Responsibilities
- Participates in all phases of the investment cycle with emphasis on grant performance evaluation required for renewal or closing.
- Serves as grant management process expert by using monitoring and reporting methods appropriate for identifying health of program activities.
- Evaluates grantee progress toward significant milestone and outcomes across the following areas: program, policy, finance, governance, management and legal
- Continuously adjusts activities and strategies based on grantee evaluation and results
- Incorporates quantitative and qualitative monitoring into grant management process to summarize grant progress
- Recommends program modifications, extensions, to Foundation leadership and Board.
- Ensure programs within the assigned portfolio follow processes and practices that provide on-time program delivery, deliver appropriate grant outcomes and outputs, and support the data, publication, and impact goals of the Foundation.
- Utilizes learnings from grantee briefings, reports and other materials related to inform Foundation’s communications strategies related to emerging /key issues for Foundation leadership and board (and external audiences, when appropriate) in partnership with Communications Director.
- Stays up-to-date on developments in Foundation focus areas through research and by attending pertinent conferences and meetings.
- Represents the Foundation strategy and its interests to prospective grantees through formal and informal presentations such as attending conferences, committee representation and other meetings, as necessary.
- clearly articulate proposal elements in response to foundation requirements and define impact to community as well as implications of any proposed business integrations or perceived business value
- Facilitate community discussions with the goal of driving open application participation
- Forms key partnerships with individuals and organizations – in the non-profit, public, and private sectors – to ensure Foundation receives applicants in each geography for funding consideration
- Serves on public advisory boards and working groups as a Foundation representative, as needed.
- The Foundation Professional must have an understanding of the philanthropic communities, business markets and geographies in which they live and work as well as the nuances in power dynamics which exist in funder/grantee and funder/business relationships.
